martini
go to (a free food) happy hour.

water buy a glass of tonic water with a lime (usually less than 2 bucks).

foodnow eat until full.

giggle i've been known to do that during my lunch hour when i worked the early evening shift at a job in the past.

a'course that was before these current and econimically tough times. i'd jokingly call this practice "how i survived the depression during happy hour."

This is actually a great idea! My friend and I used to have what we called our "cheap date night" where we'd go to this one place that had a happy hour buffet (that was quite good, and you could get a full, well-balanced meal) and on Thursdays they had $2 pints of beer. So we'd get one pint each and have a full meal through the buffet. Then we'd go to this second-run movie theatre where tickets were only $2. So the entire evening would only cost $5 each (with tip for the beer).

Now I see cheap date night deals all over. There's one in Uptown where you get a bottle of wine, an appetizer and a dessert to share and 2 tickets to the indie movie house next door for $30 total. That's not bad at all!

here's one I've seen in action:
invite your friends to eat out at a pizza place, don't eat anything
then invite your friends to a bar that offers a free slice of pizza with every drink, don't drink, but eat all the free pizza

mr.green

1. Steal your entertainment from the internet.
2. Steal your drinks from other people's tables when going out. After 2AM everyone at those places is so drunk they won't even notice.
3. No high-maintenance gfs or hanging out with friends who make considerably more money than you do.
4. No Macs.

That's my contribution to this thread!

ROFL.....you are really Anti-Macs. lol

i thought some of us could share how we save money and cut corners to make it 'til next pay day. i myself have a few things that i do to bring my cost of living down.
like:

1. take 5 minute showers
2. make my lunch at home (for work)
3. save all my loose change - in 4 month increments - roll it up & bank it
4. use candles after 8:00pm (unless i'm reading - then lights go out at 9:00pm)
5. wash dishes by hand
6. buy (certain) generic products
7. reuse plastic shopping bags (also use them to line my smaller trash recepticles)
8. re-use plastic water bottles (put my juice in them to take to work)
9. i cook up to three meals at a time (refrigerate - then nuke - saves me time and energy cost)
10.my bank automatically credits my savings account by putting in $5.00 for every $100.00 i deposit. will increase amount upon my request.

I do most of those, but I need to work on shorter showers. I really try to take shorter showers at night, but I look forward to ending the night by taking a relaxing shower. I feel like it's my special alone time to pamper myself with body washes & other bath products.
