Wyclef Donation Spending?

Be wary of who or what you send you donations for Haiti victims to.

Well now THIS is disturbing, particularly since I've already donated $5 to Wyclef's Yele Haiti Foundation. Though they've listed the documents to support their claim, I just wish this story were coming from somewhere other than The Smoking Gun. I'd be interested in hearing/reading Wyclef's response to this claim, because I had trusted that Wyclef's intent to help was sincere and honorable. Though I don't believe that 100% of ANY donations EVER go directly to the cause at hand. And it just may be that in the fine print he never said it all would.

Still, a disturbing report. Thanks for sharing.

like the money sent to the government for Katrina or for he tsunami victims may not have been misappropriated.

Wyclef has been supporting his country for a long time, so I do believe he's not trying to profit from its destruction....

it's a shame all people can't be trusted though....

Wyclef issued a video where (to paraphrase) he says he is disgusted with the accusations, and ends with now, donate more to my charity.

The audio was really poor and he mumbles, so i couldn't make it all out, but he doesn't deny what came out, just that he is disgusted with it.

Every charity has overhead and costs of doing business, but this one's costs are being paid back to Wyclef through other organizations. Seems kinda shady, but it's a little late to find this out, he's been raising 1 million a day.

If I can find that video, I'll post it.

Found it with better audio:

You know he has done a mountain of work since this quake and his sincerity in helping the victims in unquestionable. It just seems that his foundation has some questionable reporting practices and they do in fact spend money on rent and other services to companies owned by Wyclef.

I'm not one who just goes for the "Okie-Doke", but something tells me Wyclef's efforts are not as shady as some may be trying to make it out to be. Wyclef knows he'll be held accountable in the end, and I just don't think he's that stupid (...or dishonest). We'll see.

Well that right there brings up a whole lot of shade.

Wouldn't that depend on what the rent and other services to companies owned by Wyclef were doing? Like, what if the "rent" was for housing artists that were performing at Wyclef charity concerts? Or what if the companies owned by Wyclef were receiving funds to maintain charitable operations they were executing? Seems unreasonable that if you were working for a Wyclef charity, for example; in Haiti, that he would not be feeding and housing volunteers. So at least from what I've seen so far, I'm not too disturbed by the statement: "funds" from Wyclef's charity have been spent on rent and other services to companies owned by him. He even mentions that in this clip. Just throwing it out there. And for what it's worth, I don't detect any lying or dishonesty in this response clip that Wyclef posted, and I have a fairly highly tuned shit-detector.

I wonder how familiar Wyclef or any celebrity is with the day to day operations and proper accounting practices of their foundations? Maybe they need to do a better job overseeing programs with their names attached to it.

Anyhoo, here's another statement from him.
