FANTASTIC PLANET - lawd, do I love thee

It's one of those movies that, honestly, I stumbled on to while skimming channels late one night several years ago.

I'm not sure why, but I didn't change the channel.
I kept watching it.

...and watching.
...and watching.

until finally I was hooked. It's weird, the music is dated
and it sometimes has a Hanna Barbara feel to it.

But it's a remarkably engaging film.

This part one of several parts.

O.M.G!!! I love it!

This is an AMAZING find. eek Never seen this before!

This is intelligent cartoon!, scary, moving, athmospheric, a world of it's own, very captivating. I LOVE the outfit that Tiva(?)'s father is wearing. love

I'm feeling a big Terry Gilliam vibe, especially on the human design and the slapsticklike humor..

Also the french cartoonist Albert Barillé and his Il était une fois... - series comes to mind.
He wisely said, that
"Make our children want to know, arouse their curiosity. Also treat them as people in their own right, who understand much more than adults would have us believe. They will be all the stronger for it and be grateful to you."
I don't find the mainstream cartoons challenging and inspiring at all. sad

This HAS to be french, I'm sure of it!! lol

I gotta watch some more.
Allow me to introduce: Ms. Onder and Mrs. Donk! (o)(o)

It's in 8 parts on youtube.

You can see all eight parts to get a sense of the movie.

I need to find the DVD. I wonder if they've cleaned up the film for DVD.
This is something that shouldn't be aloud to age and go into obscurity.

It's quite brilliant.

The Youtube is ripped from the DVD.

"A pity then that the transfer is based on such a poor print! The subtitles are burnt in, two green cables are visible throughout most of the film and while the centre of the screen is pretty sharp the right side seems out of focus, like there was something wrong with the projector. Please, get someone to digitally remaster this!"

I would love to see a remaster.

...and an update boxed.
Something that uses the artist's original renderings, but adds a dose of 3-d computer animated yumminess to it. boxed

Don't get me wrong--I love the original.
It would just be a techno wiz guilty pleasure to see an update that stays true to the original.

I love this film!!

I was lucky enough to see a special showing of it in a cinema in London a few years ago.

I have it on DVD, but in french language with only lithuanian sub-titles. Guess Im going to have to learn another language in the next couple of years, or buy a better copy. biggrin

A french production, but the art was done in Prague (Czech) I think.

I watched the whole thing last night. nod Loved it. The ending came pretty quick though, right? lol It was like, "Well, we'll just have to live in peace." And then, they did. Just like that. No explanation of how they did it, or how they got there. If only if was really like that in real life. sigh

I remember the first time I saw it, I was like,.... WTF? lol

But then a few years later I had to sit through the ending of Return of The King by Peter Jackson, and honestly, I'll take Fantastic Planet's ending any day. falloff

It's addictive isn't it? Once you start it, you want to sit through the whole thing and see what the outcome is.

Swear to gawd, if that movie was a dildo, I would want it in my cozy butthole for life. It's a great work of art.

I love the music. It almost borders on great 70's porn music at times. A cross between that and some of the old-school Sesame Street music from the animation clips. lol

I'm changing my Halloween costume for next year from the Creature from the Black Lagoon to a Draag. smile

Brilliancy edit: eek We could get a group together to all be Draags and carry around little Om dolls in our hands. Or hand. The other hand will have a drink in it of course.
