MAC PEOPLE time capsule 1TB I want to use this thing to put all my music videos and photo files on and keep them off of my main drive on my desk top, just letting my apps retrieve them from the time capsule... can i use this thing like that? or is only to back for back up? I am not sure, I want this also so let me know when you find out. We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou

i am told by ms whistle that you can do this if you use time capsule as an external hard drive and change the destination folders in iPhoto and iTunes.
^^i don't really know what any of that means or entails. if that isn't helpful or specific enough, i could ask her for more details. everyone's a fruit & nut case

is time capsule like time machine? I use time machine to back up only Time Machine is the app and Time Capsule is Apple's external hard drive. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

This is an easy process with your Time Capsule. Just format the drive as having 2 partitions. The back-up partition(which can be made roughly the size of your internal HD - or whatever your preference) must be formatted HFS+, but the partition which will hold your iTunes files can be formatted HFS+ or FAT32(for sharing with a PC).
Go to Apple's iTunes forums for info on changing the location of your iTunes folders. It's a pretty straight forward operation. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Aside from storage, the Time Capsule just adds wireless and web access to the mix and acts as a WiFi router for Macs.
