iPod went through the washing machine. :(

My iPod Touch was accidentally washed in the washing machine last night. I had to wash my comforter because someone spilled something on it. Apparently the iPod was tangled up inside of it. I didn't realize it until I went to put the comforter in the dryer. I saw it at the bottom of the washer and I almost died. My warranty is up for it since it's almost 2 years old now....can't believe it's been that long. Has anyone had this happen before? boxed redface I read where if you put it in rice and let it dry out it'll work after a few days. I have it in a bag of rice right now.....fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

Bad luck. I think it may well have had it if its gone in a washing machine. I had to wait for mine to dry out when I got it wet in the rain. I would just try and leave it to dry out in a warm enough place. I know the temptation is to keep trying it but leave it a while and see what happens. Good luck. hug

Thanks. I hope so. There were different suggestions, but most of them were for simple water damage. I'm hoping the fact that it was submerged in hot water, detergent and fabric softener doesn't play a role. I'll keep trying all resolutions if this doesn't work.

Why didn't you buy a skin for it, that saves mine if it ever gets wet. Still I sympathise with you, I would be livid if that happened to my Ipod, especially as it has my copy of Something something something darkside on it and 400 Prince songs.

Aww, that sucks. I did something stupid this week too. I recently moved and was unpacking boxes, and flattening the empty ones to throw out. I think I accidently bundled up the xmas gift I bought myself in the cardboard boxes and took it out to the recycling. bawl I realized the box (w/my gift in it, which was long & flat) was missing this morning and tore the apartment apart looking for it. I went outside to see if maybe it was still outside in the recycling, but the City picks up recycling on Tuesdays so it was gone. wall

Hopefully you'll have better luck than I did.
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

It'll probably be fine. Just don't rush it. Let the rice soak up all the moisture.

You mean a regular silicone skin? I thought they were just for decoration....but you're right as far as protecting it. I think they make a hard plastic cover to waterproof your iPod. I'll look into it. I guess I just never thought water damage would happen to my iPod. lol Ok, I just googled and found a waterproof case for $50. It's not the most attractive or cheapest:

Eeek....but considering it's weather and drop proof, it still sounds like I'm sold.

I'm tempted to buy a shuffle to tide me over. Can never have too many iPods, right? lol

Hard plastic case by Belkin, its great. you can the ipod on concrete and not a scratch. The only hole is on the side for cable and headphone connections (On my 4th generation nano anyway)

I've never wsahed an ipod but I've washed my share of electronic devices...and most of them, after drying out, had no issues...

good luck!

I gave almost 2 weeks before I tested it out. It started up and played my music that was still uploaded. I thought everything was fine, then the screen started flashing and acting funny. It reminded me of how older tvs act when the cable goes out. It still plays, but I can't see what the fuck I'm doing on it. My tax return came back, so I might treat myself to the 64GB one. They don't even make the 16 GBs anymore. The 32GBs out now are the same price that the 16GBs were when they first came out. I thought 16GB was kind of an odd number to have anyway.
