the Murder of Professional athletes by their women

2009 has seen it's share of pro athletes being killed.
Steve Mcnair, Chris Henry, and Boxer Artur Gatti all by their women.
Is this a trend?

Gatti's wife was only accused of his murder but still.

And I thought this would be a thread about wifes who kill their husband´s passion.

So, you mean it....literally.

Shouldn't we be dogging Chris Brown for hitting Rihanna rather than discussing women who kill?
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Aren't most murders crimes of passion?

If so, this is one instance where I agree with ex-NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue that the NFL mirrors real life.

I don't think Chris Henry's fiancee meant to kill him.

I don't know what ever happened with the boxer, I thought they said she tried to strangle him with her purse?!?

And Steve McNair was just plain dumb to not pay better attention to the fact that his ho was losing her damn mind...

So no, not a trend. biggrin

I think Sup was being facetious since many (including me) have been dogging Chris Brown. lol

Mr. Henry fell off of a moving flatbead truck... wasn't he chasing the truck down and tried to jump in the back of the truck or something? Accident maybe but not murder.

We don't know for sure whether Chris Henry's fiancee tried to kill him or not. She may have been on a murderous rampage; then again, he jumped into the back of the pick up truck and may have slipped out. We don't know the circumstances of the incident, and it could take weeks to sort out before any possible homicide charges are brought (if any).

But with all of these stories plus the whole Tiger Woods episode, I'm tempted to tell guys to forget about marriage and just find yourself a bunch of skanks and hoes to satisfy your sexual needs. It makes marriage not worth the effort to be with someone.

sad typing

How about if you decide to get married don't be abusive or adulterous and maybe you'll be okay.

And I'm sure there are more instances of athletes purposely abusing or killing their wives/girlfriends than the other way around. Rae Carruth had hi 8-months pregnant girlfriend killed and tried to kill his own child. confused

Adulterous? Spreading sum good ol´luvin can´t be no justified reason to kill someone. There are far better reasons for killing someone.

Not so quickly. He was in the bed of the truck.
Certainly a case for manslaughter - She did not intend to kill, but her actions were reckless and with total disregard for human life that death was a likely and foreseeable consequence of her actions.

If she were trying to throw him out/off the truck, that's second degree murder.
She knew/ or should have known that the consequences of her actions could (and did) result in the death of another.

I don't know all the particulars. I thought I heard she was speeding away or leaving and Mr. Henry jumped or tried to jump in back of the bed of the truck? I'm not sure... will hear more about this I'm certain.

But she obviously knew he was there, he was banging on the back window. He was half a mile from home and even being NFL fast I don't think he was still chasing the truck.
Once she knew he was in the back of the truck, she was responsible for his welfare.

if he fell off the back of the truck, that was his own bad.
if she backed the truck up over him, that was her bad.

the fact that this did not happen in the driveway makes me lean more toward the former supposition.

maybe if you are having a fight and the other person gets pissed and actually wants to just leave the scene, you should just let them go and not chase them and cause accidents. Theme of the month!

Legally, if he fell off, that's her fault, not his. Really.

I'm real sorry about Chris Henry. It looks like, at this early stage in the case, he made a bad decision and paid dearly for it.

Much as I admired Steve the athlete, I have a hard time sympathizing with a dude who had a bunch of women on the side. The theory is his mistress/murderer became enraged when she realized he wasn't leaving his wife for her and discovered he was "cheating" on her with other women. My my observation, his wife was really nice (and beautiful).

Sad part is how media (local and otherwise) referred to his mistress as his "girlfriend" over and over again.

Sorry, Graycap. But, your thread kind of takes away the responsibility from the athletes in your examples. Fact is, Steve had been shirking his responsibility for a long time, in many ways.

Some mistakes are easier to forgive. I made many mistakes in my day, but nobody was seriously affected besides me. When your mistakes cause injury to another, the benefit of the doubt will not be given away as freely. Our society seriously frowns upon woman-beaters. If you think Chris Brown will be forgiven by society any time soon, google Ike Turner or Warren Moon and see what comes up.

I wouldn't say it's a trend, the fact that it's not a common occurrence is what's making it so newsworthy and shocking.

I think husbands (athlete or otherwise) abusing their wives is the real trend unfortunately.

Where did I say it was justified? But it IS often the reason why men or women kill their spouse regardless of status, wealth, or fame.

You are assuming a WHOLE lot. She is NOT responsible for his welfare if HE chose to jump into the back of a moving truck. Also, there was a domestic dispute and SHE was leaving the scene so it's quite possible HE was doing something to her she was trying to get away from and wouldn't stop because she thought she was in danger. But I know this doesn't fit into your view that it's always the woman doing the abusing. rolleyes
