My Youthful Appearance is working against me

OK, before we get started let me just say that this is not
a sefl-congratulatory pat on the back for my appearance.
It's not like I had anything to do with they way I look
with regards to my age.

But, I'm being invited to hnagout with and spend weekends
with some of the other Ajaans here constantly. But it's
only the younger ones in their 20s who are asking me to
hangout.
Finally, knowing full well what their answers would be,
I asked them how old they thought I was. All answer mid
to late 20's, which on some levels is flattering of course.

The frustration here is that I don't have any desire to
'have fun' at the pace of a person in their mid 20's anymore.
My body can't handle going out 3 or 4 nights a week,
downing tons of alchohol and waking up at 6 am for work
the next day.
I'm not in my 20's, I'm not a gay circuit queen, and
I don't have the financial funds to support this pace
of life to begin with.

Those who *ARE* my age for some reason don't hangout
with me, nor do they ask me to attend functions with
them. Most of these folks no my 'real' age now too,
but it still seems like they view me as being in a
different 'class' than they do. I'm being age discriminated
by my own age bracket!

In the states most of my friends said I appeared
younger too, but I was constantly hanging out with
folks in the 30's and 40's (my preferred age group).

Don't get me wrong. It's a lot of fun telling somebody
you're 27 years old so you can get some fun, one-time,
no-strings-attached, young ass for the night.

But, it's no fun when you're looking for casual companionship
to go to the movies with, or to just hangout. As wonderful
as I find some of my 20 year old friends, I've lived, smoked,
breathed, and choked on the experiences they're currently
going through.

Do you look your age? younger? older? How does this affect you?

oh shit, typo edit falloff

I look younger than my age and all my friends are younger and that's ok because I usually act about 12 years old.

People blessed with youthful faces are more likely to live to a ripe old age than those who look more than their years, work shows.

Danish scientists say appearance alone can predict survival, after they studied 387 pairs of twins.

The researchers asked nurses, trainee teachers and peers to guess the age of the twins from mug shots.

Those rated younger-looking tended to outlive their older-looking sibling, the British Medical Journal reports.

Survival advantage

The researchers also found a plausible biological explanation for their results.

Key pieces of DNA called telomeres, which indicate the ability of cells to replicate, are also linked to how young a person looks.

A telomere of shorter length is thought to signify faster ageing and has been linked with a number of diseases.

In the study, the people who looked younger had longer telomeres.

All of the twins were in their 70s, 80s or 90s when they were photographed.

Over a seven-year follow-up the researchers, led by Professor Kaare Christensen of the University of Southern Denmark, found that the bigger the difference in perceived age within a pair, the more likely it was that the older-looking twin died first.

The age, sex and professional background of the assessors made no difference to any of the results.

Professor Christensen said it might be that people who have had a tougher life are more likely to die early - and their life is reflected in their face.

The researchers told the BMJ: "Perceived age, which is widely used by clinicians as a general indication of a patient's health, is a robust biomarker of ageing that predicts survival among those aged over 70."

Professor Tim Spector, a UK expert who has been doing his own twin research, said: "We are also finding this in our study.

"It's probably a combination of genes plus environment over a lifetime that are important."

He said the findings also show that people are good at assessing how well someone is and that doctors should eyeball their patients.

"If a patient looks older than their years then perhaps they should be more concerned," he said.

I recently ran into a guy I knew as a child. He looked at me genuinely amazed and said I must have found the fountain of youth. It was quite the compliment, and I believe he was honest. I have had similar compliments from high school friends who have found me on facebook.

So far I've found nothing detrimental to looking younger than my age. lol

Though I really do fear the day I actually look my age. I'm afraid it's beginning to catch up with me. neutral

I look young so chickenhawks find themselves interested in me. As soon as they find out my age, the boner goes away.

Since people think I'm younger than I am they think that I'm trying to prove myself with all this false wisdom. Bitches, I been around the block 17 million times and I'm smart! mad

my friends have always been 7-8 years older than me that in my early 20s I was not so much fun for people my age or younger to hang out with.

as for appearance, i don't know. some tend to think i'm the oldest in my family and some guess my age just right. i think it's got to do with hair/facial hair.

I'm usually told I look younger than I am.
Last night I returned some jeans I bought without trying on (doh!), and I commented to the saleswoman that the style wasn't for someone my age. She said something like, "Oh please. You can't be any more than late 20s." I thought that was a stretch, so I told her I'm 42. She called another saleswoman over, who said, "Yeah African American women are blessed that way." I don't think she thought I look young... confused

I hang out with younger people now because my friends are married and/or have kids. A couple have grandkids. But I think I look young enough that people don't think, "Why is Grandma with them?" lol

When I get me hair done (Take out the Grays) I do look younger, for some reason I haven't aged badly, my sister who is two years older than me is often mistaken as my mother, that really annoys her lol

When I was in my 20's I often got asked for ID, it was not until I was about 28 when that stopped.

But from the inside I feel old and worn out - that's what I need to work on.

So Imago enjoy it while it lasts because one day it's going to catch up with you and that's more annoying.

My wife is VERY young looking...I mean, throw a ponytail on her and I look MJ guilty. She easily passes for a teen at times, and she's 37 with two kids.

She's short too....lol Just last week, we were at the mall and both kids went up to her as she was buying an ice cream. My kids are 14 and 12, and just as tall as her. The cashier said to her, "Them r u're children?"

I don't see any disadvantage to looking younger than you are. Black folks age very well.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
