I can't imagine that the kind you buy in the US at the liquor store has any effect that might differ from regular alcohol.

I have always loved its nickname.... the Green Fairy
I imagine the stuff you can buy legally now in the UK is nothing like the strength of the stuff which made van gough cut his ear of etc With Love there is no Death

Yes. It's slightly hallucinatory, but with a warm fuzzy feeling. One only needs to imbibe in that once a year, or once a lifetime.

I had some in Berlin this year, but it clearly wasn't the absinthe of old. It was just like another drink. Tasted good though.

I saw people walking through walls - but I'd been snorting speed at the same time. Never had it again. Either absinthe or speed. That was nearly ten years ago.

Even the kind thats sold today? I thought all the hallucinegens were removed. You can still find very clean, very traditional absinthe in certain circles in Paris. I think the issue that took it off the international market was that overseas companies watered it down and cut it with such sub-standard product that was jacking people up in the head, but yes, traditional absinthe still exists, although in rare form, and not for export (outside of the EU).

Yes. I didn't really like it. Very high percentage of alcohol, I just felt this burning down my throat, no real pleasure to me.

Even the kind thats sold today? I thought all the hallucinegens were removed. In Paris, you can get the 'original stuff, but only a few bars will sell it, and it's not legal. The legal stuff no longer is hallucinatory. To Dance with the green fairy, you need to stroke the bartender. In the states, I'd be surprised if you could find the real stuff anywhere. The shit they sell is alcohol.

You can also buy relatively good absinthe in Hamburg. I have a big bottle of Philip Lasala in my kitchen but I hate that stuff,it tastes horrible, and I bought the bottle ages ago. Another good, and much tastier brand,is Absinth Serpis 65. It doesn´t taste like traditional absinthe, much more mellow and it´s red but it probably has the highest thujon percentage you can find in Germany. Both brands get imported from Spain though. These are nowhere near as strong as the absinthe that Van Gogh and the Bohemians used to drink but both brands are still much, much stronger and higher in thujon than any other brand that you can legally buy. The real deal, the original recipe, is still illegal. They changed and softened the absinthe laws around 1981 and then again in 1998. Here´s a link where you can order some Serpis 65. http://www.alandia.de/abs...is-65.html " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

saw a documentary on it where they questioned the possible hallucigenic affects it might contain and they concluded there really wasn't any
scientific proof the hallucigenic affects it might evoke apparently are very minimal if apparent at all so they concluded i'm sceptic though , i wanna try it [Edited 12/13/09 6:19am]

what was it like ? were you hallucinating ? First thing I noticed was that it gets you drunk from the feet up.. It felt like my legs were filling up with water all the way up to my head. Then it was that "love 4 one another" effect E gives you. Then I took two more, and I was completely disorientated. Must be about 10 years since I drank it. “If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists”

You'd have to get the real one from the Czeck Republic or Poland. The stuff they sell over there is illegal in other countries.
On the bottle it says something like "Do not look into the bottle - it may cause blindless"

Yes, I've drunk Absinthe. The proper French stuff too.
It gave a different sort of effect to normal alcohol, but nothing "trippy" like I'd been led to believe. Gin gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling (basically, Gin is middle class heroin) and Absinthe was a bit like that, only stronger. The biggest wallop I've ever had was from some overproof herb-infused vodka one of my friends brought back from the Czech Republic. Susan - turn the guitar up a little bit....
