My son has wanted a dog for few years. He's 12. We got a puppy (14wks),BIG MISTAKE!?
It's like having a new born in the house. It's really starting to frustrate me to the point where I'm deeply regretting it. I feel liked I'm trapped by this animal. He's gets a lot of love, when we have time. He always has a full tummy and has lots of chew toys. We have a huge backyard for the dog to run around.
I thought, this won't be so bad. WRONG!
Someone please tell me its going to better?

raising a young puppy is a full time investment. Don't get frustrated and remember he's just a toddler.

With dogs it NEVER...and I mean, NEEEEEVVVVEEEER gets better.

Of course that depends on the breed. What breed is it?


You simply have to love dogs and animals to own a dog. You can't just buy one because "it sounds like a good idea." Those little fuckers will play fetch for 5 hours if they had their way.... You need to have energy and strength. Seriously.



It doesn't sound like you got yourself a lap dog. Toy/Lap dogs are much much easier than working dogs.

And some cats are the same. Sure they're litterbox trained, and nap so much that they'll leave you alone for hours at a time, but those little fuckers never learn either.

They piss on everything....habitually.

People are always saying cats are smarter than dogs, but this isn't true. Cat's appear smarter than dogs because their owners become increasingly dumber over time from becoming slaves to the little selfish bastards.

Didn't you know all this before you got the dog??? What did you think having a new puppy that doesn't know anything and is looking to you to teach him and raise him (just like a child) was gonna be like? You shoulda researched before getting this dog, it's not the puppy's fault, he's a PUPPY. This is exactly why people should never get dogs at Xmas time because it's usually an impulse buy and the shelters are overflowing with these "gifts" by March.

Yeah, sorry to say, but a puppy needs as much training and nurturing as a child.
You will get all kinds of good things out of pet ownership, absolutely, but it's a full-time investment for years. 10 years from now you will need to find a sitter so you can go on vacation. Buying a puppy isn't somethign to enter into lightly, it's a commitment.

I have nothing more to add that hasn't already been said.

sounds like you had no business getting a dog. you have to do your research. owning an animal is a big responsibility.

my dog acts better than my kid! acts better than my cat too, to be honest.

though this might be an opportunity to teach your son responsibility. You could find some puppy classes near you and your son and puppy could do the classes together.

What kind of puppy did you get, Tricky? Because while all puppies are a full-time investment, some breeds have quirks and needs all their own.

I have a 9 month old kitten who follows me all over the house. I buy her toys;give her all the food she needs, water too, but she always wants to be petted. A young pet is like a newborn baby. they love to be nurtured and like a lot of attention. It took me 3 months to get used to my kitten, but she's mine now and I have to deal with her. Good luck with your puppy.

you should get rid of the puppy and adopt a child, they're not nearly as much work and people won't get as worked up when you crate train a child...

You should have gotten a grown dog and you wouldn't be having these problems.

We have 4 dogs

2 from puppies

Some times you don't have the time to be their plaything but get them plenty of toys and chews because puppies have teething problems like young children and also let them know that they have to have time to themselves they will get the message.

Puppies also need sleep so don't get them too excited. After meal times give them a walk and they will sleep. It does get better and our dogs are great.

my cat jane was a rescue. she took some time to get her mellow, but she is one fo the best 2 cats i have ever had. she's sooooo sweet. loves to be petted, loves to lay against my chest with my arms around her, which is not common in cats.

they are a LOT of work though, especially dogs which require a lot more training.

Today we threw a birthday party for my son who turned 8 and all his friends played with Moppy and Moppy just LOVED the attention, he ran around and fetched and was loving all the pats and ear scratches. When I look at him I just smile, he is so nice and I wonder how we lived without him. he is the cuddliest most trusting joyful little being.
