I'm totally wary of new clients thanks to that having happened to me before What did you do to deal with this. Orgnote if you want. Partial upfront payment. I've not actually seen anyone using a design I've made they haven't paid for.

In response to the original question -- most likely, not. I would probably be more apt to buy something with a poem on it. But then you're sort of getting into greeting cards, aren't you? Is there a way to get a worldwide copyright on things? I'm looking into doing those things, but no not yet.

Right, do I get a certain amount or just the payment for my time? I thought about just getting the payment for my time upfront and then they can pay the balance when I finish?

hmm...i have a lot of experience with selling poetry, i did it for several years, including writing special poems for people that paid me to do it on certain subjects. i was successful at it in the sacramento area. but i became bored with it after many years, and i've taken a 7 year break from it. i wrote articles, books, etc...
my advice is, yes people will buy it, if you go about it in the right way, it's not always easy to sell poetry! there is though a certain market for it. we can talk in orgnotes if ya want.... i haven't looked at your website yet, i'll look at it now.

I thought about just getting the payment for my time upfront and then they can pay the balance when I finish? ask Kim how she did it people don't seem to place a great deal of value into time you spend on something, only the finished article, I've had clients (who, after I've spent 7 hours slogging away on their frikkin logo) say oh, actually I don't need a logo now, so see ya later, and when I let them know they still have to pay for my time, they get mad because in their opinion, they never got anything for their money so why should they have to pay? Which is why approving your quote is like signing a contract with you, and a partial upfront payment will at least cover you for those who do a runner on you.

I would try first try to make sure they are copyrighted in the country where you live. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
