I was about to get suspended because I came in late (had gotten sick on the job days earlier) and I was catching 3 buses to get there

I used my check for nothing else EXCEPT to get to work and go home.....not to mention I got stranded in a city I knew nothing about and I had to literally had to follow the damn NORTH STAR to the bus stop

I've never been fired
I once thought I was going to be made redundant
(The rule was last in first out)
but they chose some one else, and that didn't go down too well with the colleagues

never been fired -3 jobs in 22 yrs...
resigned from the first one (13 yrs) to go to second one.

retrenched from 2nd one (store closure- 9yrs)

Once. Felt awful @ the time but thank God they did, I was getting too comfortable w/ the check & probably would have lost some of my motivation to go to grad school if I'd stayed there. Shit was super boring, which is why I got fired - I used to talk on the phone to stay awake!

I've been fired from, and I've quit, jobs. It's always a debate which is better: to quit, or get fired. Do you pull out early, or do you stick it out until the bitter end when they dismiss you? Hmmm.

well I saw some people from my last job when I was shopping this week and they all looked miserable! That should be a clue!

Seriously, I've seen plenty of people who have either gotten laid off, quit or fired from their jobs and they look 100% better than the did when they was working. That stress just slid right off their backs.

Trust me, if I could quit my job, I would, but I'm in no position to do that at the moment, so mainly I spend all my extra time looking for something else. Hopefully something will pan out soon. I keep praying about it.

not exactly fired. but they bullied me into a place where i had no
choice but to leave on my own accord. it sucked. not that i had to
leave, but the way they played that sick little game without any
regard for my feelings or well being.

if i'd slacked off or done anything wrong i would have understood.
the problem here though was that the clients liked me too much in
too short a period of time, which made a few old timers angry.

the proverbial straw was when one of our clients told me, in the
presence of long time employees "are you sure you are right for
this job? you seem to nice, to compasionate and real. don't get
me wrong, you're a top bloke, but i don't think the others will
be able to deal with someone nice and honest in the office. but
as long as you're here, i will deal with you and you only from
now on".

next morning they called me into a room for a performance talk
and told me that basically, i was a piece of shit, a worthless
human being and a fucking backstabber who didn't pull his weight.



i had to take the rest of the day off to let it sink in and on
my way home had to pull over and be sick/cry/scream and then
basically fall apart.

later i decided that my own health and sanity were more valuable
to me than winning the argument from people i wouldn't want to
work with anymore anyway.

it took a while but i came through just fine.

so uhm, in a way, i was fired but then i was not

The entire magazine staff and I were laid off back in 2001 when the title went bankrupt and folded. A company-wide email was sent at 4:15 Monday afternoon informing everyone of a mandatory meeting in the conference room at 4:30 that day. (Who calls a mandatory meeting at 4:30 in the afternoon? I knew this wasn't good.) We were all told about our small severance package, that we had until the rest of the week to clean out our desks, etc. By the time we all got back to our desks after the meeting, the computer network was taken down so we didn't have access to any company files in case some employees held a grudge.

That was the only time.
