I quit and ran out like a runaway slave lol

I was about to get suspended because I came in late (had gotten sick on the job days earlier) and I was catching 3 buses to get there confused

I used my check for nothing else EXCEPT to get to work and go home.....not to mention I got stranded in a city I knew nothing about and I had to literally had to follow the damn NORTH STAR to the bus stop disbelief

obviously that person didnt contribute as much.

last on first off is a good rule of thumb in most cases, but sometimes "dead wood" needs to be weeded out for productivity to continue.

A few close shaves, but only one firing.
A casino in 2000, after working for only a year, out of my class of 12 graduates in table game dealing, I was the 10th to either quit or get fired, only the Asians survived as they all got promoted. It just seems I got sick of people blaming me for them losing money (Its a casino, your supposed to lose motherfucker). Calling them a motherfucker probably did it, I was ready 2 quit.
Two call centre jobs, one was taking power failure calls, got sick of it after 4 months and quit, 2nd I lasted 10 months working a rewards scheme helpline, after several warnings, I just quit. Left two other jobs, but mostly working crap casual jobs until I secure the teaching position of my dreams.
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Once. Felt awful @ the time but thank God they did, I was getting too comfortable w/ the check & probably would have lost some of my motivation to go to grad school if I'd stayed there. Shit was super boring, which is why I got fired - I used to talk on the phone to stay awake! falloff

lol

i had a job like that once. the most fun thing was that we were 4 people
in total in one big room, all at our separate desks and after about two
years, one of the girls confessed that she would read books during half
the workday at least. she said she had just finished her 100th book on
the job.

after that we were all like "uhm, i do crosswords", "i talk with my mom
on the phone to stay awake"

lol.

No I haven't been fired from any jobs, and never been written up either, though I've had a few close calls. When you get too comfortable with a job, it's super easy to get written up, but somehow, I've always managed to manuever myself out of those situations. I really would love to quit my current job, but my bills are telling me not to. lol

I've been fired from, and I've quit, jobs. It's always a debate which is better: to quit, or get fired. Do you pull out early, or do you stick it out until the bitter end when they dismiss you? Hmmm.

You know that's interesting, I always thought it was better to quit a job than to get fired....I get how you put it though. If you quit, it's like you just gave up, but if you stay for them to fire you, it still looks bad because they told you to go...so who knows. Guess it depends on the situation.

oh yeah on my last job there was plenty of people who would be sitting there reading novels straight at the computer, not even hiding it. I was like omfg never seen anything like that before in my life. On my current shitty job, the boss's pet actually sits in her chair at lunch, at her desk and purposely goes to sleep.

Child, I had a dream that I was getting laid off from my current job and was happy as a runaway slave! Wonder what that is saying to me.

Seriously, I've seen plenty of people who have either gotten laid off, quit or fired from their jobs and they look 100% better than the did when they was working. That stress just slid right off their backs.

Trust me, if I could quit my job, I would, but I'm in no position to do that at the moment, so mainly I spend all my extra time looking for something else. Hopefully something will pan out soon. I keep praying about it.

not exactly fired. but they bullied me into a place where i had no
choice but to leave on my own accord. it sucked. not that i had to
leave, but the way they played that sick little game without any
regard for my feelings or well being.

if i'd slacked off or done anything wrong i would have understood.
the problem here though was that the clients liked me too much in
too short a period of time, which made a few old timers angry.

the proverbial straw was when one of our clients told me, in the
presence of long time employees "are you sure you are right for
this job? you seem to nice, to compasionate and real. don't get
me wrong, you're a top bloke, but i don't think the others will
be able to deal with someone nice and honest in the office. but
as long as you're here, i will deal with you and you only from
now on".

next morning they called me into a room for a performance talk
and told me that basically, i was a piece of shit, a worthless
human being and a fucking backstabber who didn't pull his weight.

eek

i had to take the rest of the day off to let it sink in and on
my way home had to pull over and be sick/cry/scream and then
basically fall apart.

later i decided that my own health and sanity were more valuable
to me than winning the argument from people i wouldn't want to
work with anymore anyway.

it took a while but i came through just fine.

so uhm, in a way, i was fired but then i was not lol

Sounds similar to my last job. The stress from dealing with my director and deputy director was making me physically ill (lost 2 sizes, hives, headaches, etc.) Based on what I had seen them do to 3-4 previous co-workers, I knew I was next on their list. I fought the good fight, stayed long enough to get the maximum number of vacation days and resigned. It was like a huge weight had been lifted off of me.

Last week I found out they are doing the same thing to one of my friends/co-workers who is still there. sad (She's worked there almost 4 years, and got an ulcer within the first year from their pettiness.)
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

On a Monday, I was going 2 give my 2 week notice because I had another job.
On the previous Friday, I was given my lay off notice. Because I was laid off, instead of qutting, the company put an additional 20K in my pocket. What a difference a day makes.

I've been fired. I get job(s) that pay more money. The current employer will counter and offer a little more money, if I don't accept I immediately get fired.

Thanks for your responses everyone. I have been fired/laid off/whatever from a job in the past before as well, and that shit hurts. What kills me was when I was being let go, being told, "You're a nice person, and everybody here likes you." I said to them, "I try to be nice, but I don't know if it's always helpful." WTH, like telling me I'm nice and people like me is going to take the sting out of losing my job? It's not going to work, sorry, I'm not that stupid. disbelief
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

The entire magazine staff and I were laid off back in 2001 when the title went bankrupt and folded. A company-wide email was sent at 4:15 Monday afternoon informing everyone of a mandatory meeting in the conference room at 4:30 that day. (Who calls a mandatory meeting at 4:30 in the afternoon? I knew this wasn't good.) We were all told about our small severance package, that we had until the rest of the week to clean out our desks, etc. By the time we all got back to our desks after the meeting, the computer network was taken down so we didn't have access to any company files in case some employees held a grudge.

That was the only time.

Got fired from a pizza delivery job, age 18. Someone was throwing a party and ordered 20 pizzas and when I got there the party was all the way live, I was offered a beer. I got to that house a 11:00 pm didn't get back to the pizza parlor until 2:00 am. The was back in the day... because I sure now the owner would've called the police reporting me missing. lol

Yep. It was 1987 and I was working at Burger King. Fast food is definately not the job for me. It was so fast paced it made me confused as hell. I got fired on a Friday evening during the 5:00 o'clock rush hour. I got so confused I put mayonaise on the fish sandwich and tarter sauce on the chicken sandwich. Hell, both of them looked the same on the bun. One of the managers came back there and said "Apparently this isn't the line of work for you so we're letting you go. You can leave now or you can finish the evening if you want". Yeah right. Who the hell is going to finish the evening after getting fired? lol

I will never forget, I got in my car, lit a cigarette, turned on the engine, and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" by Shitney Houston came on the radio. I tell ya, it was a fucked up day all the way around. lol Back in those days, fast food workers wore those paper hats. One of my co-workers came running up to the car yelling...."Andy, can I have your hat?" lol

No, but I wouldn't be surprised if it happened pretty soon. They've laid a ton of people here off since I started working here. About half of the people here. I think we're about to throw in the towel.....because this company has had several complaints to the Better Business Bureau. I've heard rumors that they've already filed for bankruptcy since they were way in debt. Someone inside the company messed up finances somehow. I'm ready for a new job anyway.
