Lore got more advanced circuitry because Data was the example. Data did have an emotion chip later on of course. I could be wrong about the order in which they were made. The contraction thing seems simple to us, but to his programming, it's impossible. actually Lore was the prototype, which explains the limitations (in theory, at least). They were put there on purpose because Lore was flawed. I still don't understand specifically why no contractions, but whatever! [Edited 11/30/09 12:36pm] My Legacy

http://en.allexperts.com/...ctions.htm
Initially Data's creator, Dr. Noonien Soong, intentionally set out to make Data seem less human. Part of Data's lack of ability to use contractions was done on purpose by Soong so that Data would be differentiated from his brother Lore, an android their "father" created first, who could use contractions. The colonists on the world where Lore and Data were built were uncomfortable around Lore because Dr. Soong had made him "too human." So, with Data he purposely made him unable to use the contractions humans use as part of everyday speech. Now, for sure Data could create some type of program to 'fix' this problem, but he would consider doing that akin to unnecessary brain surgery to correct an accent that a humanoid had. Data would prefer to learn things and gain those experiences, rather than just 'reprogram' his brain. We know he can taste things so, why not just program in the taste of everything in the replicator database and save himself the time of having to taste different foods? The reason is because he wants to have those experiences of different tastes the way humans do, and use those experiences to fuel his own growth as a sentient being. Who else loves Star Trek? Am I weird for watching it regularly? No, I watched it years ago when it first came on and liked it then. It has been playing in re-runs recently on a local TV channel and I started watching it again. Not only is it just as good the second time round, but it shows how new shows on TV are really lacking in characters, atmosphere, and storylines these days!

Riker is a dirty, wanna-be cowboy from Alaska. He's the "cleaner" version of Captain Kirk of the old Enterprise. I used to hate him, but the episode "Frame Of Mind" made me appreciate his acting. The scene from another episode in which he gives advice about women to Data made me appreciate his character as well. He's a cowboy.

Was it TOS or TNG that had an episode where they were complaining their lockers were getting shabby? I'm 90% sure that was TNG. I'm not sure TOS ever had that level of self-awareness. They're very black and white about things, very left-brained, very cut and dry. Their haircuts reflected that. Simple, harsh, drastic - emotionless, showing no character or personality at all, yet it showed exactly that in every Vulcan. They were low on personality, yet high on simplicity, harshness, low on emotions, and drastic in their straight forward approach to life. If anything, it teaches us to be ourselves. As logical as the Vulcans were, the simple idea of being an individual was somehow lost in their quest for personal perfection as a race. What about the sometimes elaborate hair of Vulcan women, like T'Pring or Saavik? Also, why does Saavik have a man's name? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

That just raises further questions! If that quasi-bowl/Caesar cut was the most logical haircut for male Vulcans -and there is a certain practicality to it -then wouldn't the fancy, elaborate hair of the female Vulcan's hair be, well, illogical? After all, hair like that takes some serious maintenance. And why would T'Pol or Valeris choose more masculine hair when Vulcans seem so attached to their own cultural norms? Out of a recognition of the impracticality of fancy hair in a military setting? Of course, none of this addresses why Saavik has a man's name or why Spock addresses her as Mr. Saavik in Wrath of Khan.... "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Ferengi serve rather as a comic relief than a seriously dangerous race. They are underhanded and not very intelligent and, above all that, amazingly ugly.

I'm a HUGE fan of the original series! With the exception of Patrick Stewart and the actor who played Data(can't remember his name), "Next generation" was a waste. I really disliked #1(they should have called him #2) and Counselor Troy. She was beyond useless and just a tad too zaftic for those corny one piece outfits she was sporting.
.... although I did like this movie
