Attn: Karma Police - What's the verdict?! Today I went to the post office and when I explained my situation, the lady at the counter's response was this:
You'll never believe what this guy is doing! 
The Story: About a month ago I saw my cousin whom I haven't seen in 8 years. We spent the weekend together at her mom's house. When I left to go back home, she asked if I use stamps. I told her my mom does so she handed me 2 books of Forever Stamps saying she got them from her brother. The thing is that her brother is a career criminal and there is -0% that he actually bought those. They were probably among other things he stole from a break-in somewhere. I don't want to use stolen stuff 
So I went to the post office counter: This is going to sound totally bizarre but I received these from my cousin who said she got them from her brother. Her brother is a career criminal and it is almost guaranteed that these are stolen. I want to return these back to the post office and you can re-sell them or do whatever you want with them.

Well I have no idea where these came from and there is no way to prove it. At this point you're giving money to the Post Office. How about you keep them? 
Well...if that is what you are deciding. I just don't want to accept stolen material and wanted to do the right thing! How about this, I'll take one and you take one?

So my question is this: Are the stamps still stolen? it's like when you go outside for a smoke and you make a workmate go out with you because then it doesn't feel so bad. Post office can't sell them, their books will be out of whack at the end of the day, and the employee will be questioned (I don't know how many are in a book or whatever, it 's probably not that much $$$ worth is it?) the postal worker was at least being honest to not take them both for herself at least, but this way has halved the "bad karma" by making you take one too. | |

So my question is this: Are the stamps still stolen? You don't KNOW that they ever were stolen. You are just stereotyping your cousin or whomever. Did you ask the individual who gave you the stamps if they were stolen? If not, then why assume they are? The man can't have a kind bone in his body to do a good deed even once?! No karma . . . . Unless you find that people don't believe your actions and intentions are honest and aboveboard. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. |

Did you ask the individual who gave you the stamps if they were stolen? No, I didn't want to be rude and refuse a "gift" If not, then why assume they are? I don't believe in karma anymore. But I do believe in good people doing honest things--which you did. You shouldn't have to worry about doing any more than that. So my vote is that the stamps are yours to do with as you want, with no strings attached. | |

Well I'm trying to think "right" about this situation. She didn't tell me they were stolen so I'm assuming. I did try and give them back but the post office doesn't want to make money!
