You are now a part of the Borg Collective...resistance is futile. Tyler Perry is a huge sci-fi fan, so he jumped at the chance to do this cameo. Thanks for reminding me to buy the movie, we always watch sci-fi on the holidays. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I remember December a year ago I made a thread about the movie coming out and how excited I was and what not, and everybody was saying shit like "It's gonna be stupid" "It won't be right with shatner in it" blah blah blah...then it came out and everybody loved it.

Thought it was complete shit the 1st time I saw it. Watched the blu ray this week and decided it would be OK without JJ Abrams, his fucking lens flares, and Chris Pine.
The role of Scotty was turned into a clown, but Simon Pegg did what he could with it and Carl Urban was dead on as Bones. The Kobyashi Maru scene was the best example of hack writing, directing, and acting this side of "Twilight". Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

It was okay, fairly well acted, written, directed, but I didn't think the storyline was that interesting. It basically boiled down to a bunch of action with some character stuff mixed in. & The Romulans were too spooky & badass
I have been watching The Next generation reruns, and they are far more interesting, even though they are a bit cheesy and dated. My Legacy

They also got some of the mythology incorrect, like Cpt Pike with Sulu & Chekov, Uhura--I have to say I have not watched the last 20 minutes, maybe they explain this with alternate timelines or something--that was not the crew in the pilot episode featuring cpt pike. My Legacy

Now I've finished it, I was like they actually destroyed Vulcan? I assumed that would just be an alternate reality or something.
I am not sure about the casting. If they want it to be different, fine, but they completely went for the old stuff, costumes, characters. Leonard Nimoy was actually in this movie, and the guy who played Spock was nothing like him-- and nowhere near as good. They guy who played Kirk was okay, but wore a little thin by the end. All in all, meh. It was fairly well done, but basically just a bunch of noise & explosions. Nothing particularly interesting. And that is what Star Trek was--interesting. The original shows had bad acting, bad effects, but interesting ideas. This was just the opposite. [Edited 11/23/09 11:04am] My Legacy

It's like this movie was made only to draw in viewers & have them react in a mildly positive way. There didn't seem to be any desire to actually make it anything special. My Legacy

I saw it in IMAX, and it almost made me jizz in my pants because it was so fucking good. (And let's face it, Chris Pine isn't bad to look at either.)

I saw it at the movies when it opened and last night on dvd. I will probably watch it again very soon and only partially because Chris Pine is nice to look at. I can see why you almost jizzed watching it on IMAX. I'm firmly planted in denial

OK, nice and all, but we R the exact opposite here. 4 me, the original TV show was the ONLY Star Trek... and it was another case of me (and my generation) catching old reruns of shows that had long been cancelled. Twilight Zone was another gem. That being said, I liked the movie, but would agree with NDRU when he said: "Leonard Nimoy was actually in this movie, and the guy who played Spock was nothing like him-- and nowhere near as good. They guy who played Kirk was okay, but wore a little thin by the end. All in all, meh. It was fairly well done, but basically just a bunch of noise & explosions. Nothing particularly interesting.
