The Concorde.... It's now been 6 years since this supersonic aircraft was grounded for what seems to now be final. Even though there was only one fatal crash (Air France Flight 4590 - July 2000) it was the beginning of the end of this awesome beast. Reasons given were that they were no longer cost effective and even though the landing gear problems that kept arising were rectified by engineers, the rise in fuel affected the ultimate decision to have all Concordes grounded.
I'd like to know if there is anybody here that was fortunate enough to have flown in one of the passenger flights and would like to share their experience and how it differed to that of a regular Airbus or Boeing. I never did get to experience it for myself, and it only came to Australia for test flights 3 times in the 70's (I wasn't born), but it was proven to be a disaster when it flew into Melbourne and hundreds of highrise building windows exploded under the force of the craft. So peeps confide in me.... | |

Always made me feel proud to see the British Airways concorde
I always looked out for them at the airport as that was the closest I got What you don't remember never happened | |

Nah, never got to ride in one, dang it. But when the Economic Summit of 1990 was held in Houston, all the big cheeses flew into Ellington Field. We officed on the fifth floor of an office building about three miles away, and had a great view of the runway.
It was cool watching Thatcher in her 757, and the Japanese contingent in their Falcon 50s, but when Mitterand arrived via private Concorde, that was the ultimate! I was surprised at how much smaller it was than a 757. | |

I imagine that if a person had to fly overseas they must be pretty upset that there's no concord anymore.
I heard somewhere that they flew so high that the sky did not appear to be as blue as when you ride in a normal plane. My Legacy

It's funny that the two greatest Anglo-French joint engineering projects (Concorde and The Channel Tunnel) resulted in faster methods of leaving each other's countries.
