if I get the lcd first- I should get a tilt bracket right?

and looks like I need a plasma for the living room

-duly noted cool

Plasmas have image-burning issues, are WAY heavier, and run a LOT hotter than an LCD.

Man, this is true. I love my plasma to death but I could heat my house with it.

That's not true. People are still having burn issues w/ plasmas, albeit not as harsh as in the past, but it is still an existing problem. Cheaper LCDs have burn issues as well. I've been people's TVs have the cable guide temporarily burned into the screen, just from scanning to see what's on television.

you can't get image burn just by scanning to see whats on the other channel. some old plasmas had burn issues, but modern ones don't. any burn in from overuse of the same image can normally be removed by showing a different channel or leaving a static/interference/detuned channel for a short period. most DOG's these days are designed to avoid burn in, they change and fade and move about. in saying that, if you really watched the same channel with the same DOG all the time you probably wouldn't notice or care about screen burn in the first place

We just asked a sales rep at Best Buy about the image burn issues.

He assured us that plasmas are as solid as LCDs now, both have a life expectancy of about 18 years.

He said that to get an image burn, you'd have to tune in to CNN or MSNBC and leave the TV running for a YEAR, and then you'd get the logo on the lower right-hand side burned in. HOWEVER, you can erase it by playing a movie with lots of action and movement.

Neophyte

I don't know enough about them to say for sure, but just bought an LCD and absolutely love it.

I was gonna buy an LED but didn't have enough money on me at the time; as the purchase was rushed my CRT died on my the night before and I can't life without a tv and the old emergency fund on went so far.

I will definitely be getting myself an LED for the bedroom for Christmas though.

also depends on if you have a very bright sunny room and if anyone intends to watch during the day (our kitchen even withe the curtains drawn is still super bright.

We got an LCD for the kitchen/family room, less reflecty screen nod we have a plasma in the darker room

Well, plasma's give truer blacks.

They're the ones that told me 3 years ago the burn in issues were resolved and talked me into buying the extra $500 coverage. So, of course when I call to tell 'em it burned in . . . that's not covered. confused neutral

It's always some. Funny, in the FOUR trips there before I bought it NO ONE mentioned the break in period. Just saying, they aren't the most reliable, unbiased sources of info.

I'ma just sit closer to my regular 21" TV. For DVDs or blue-ray (which we don't have though), sure it'd be nice, but since cable/satellite here is worse quality than a VCD, really what would be the point? lol

OLED is, but as it's the most expensive it would take until the year 2078 or something to cover the outlay

LCD is cheaper to run than plasma. LCD is the ghetto version of plasma

Plasma uses more electricity switched on than the LCD, LCD uses more electricity in stand-by mode than plasmas.

If you watch tv from odd angles go with Plasma. LCD have a narrow viewing zone of good colors and black levels. Just like a typical lcd computer monitor

I got my LED/LCD and I'm not liking the picture quality of my cable stations. The dvd picture quality is okay though.

I guess I have to mess with the settings more. Or maybe I should back up. It's in a small room.

My old Sony I had before my flat screen that I bought last year is 25 years old and still works like a charm. Never had to get it fixed. I gave it to my nephew who has it in his room now. Now THAT is reliability.

BTW, I have a Dell LCD and couldn't be happier. Its a beautiful picture...I went with LCD since I got a hell of a deal through the company I work for (we get discounts w/Dell). Also heard about those burn issues with Plasma, and didn't want to deal...
