WTF? victor newman gets fired from Y&R he IS Y&R
Veteran soap star Eric Braeden preps for exit Soap fans are all lathered up about Eric Braeden's upcoming departure from The Young and the Restless. Victor Newman, his character, will exit the show on Nov. 2. And it's all about money, of course. Braeden's current three-year deal with Sony, the production company, wasn’t due to elapse until November 2010. But Sony took advantage of a sneaky, yet standard, clause in soap contracts that leaves a star’s salary prone to renegotiation every 26 weeks. And Braden, 68, refused to take a paycut. "There is no appreciation of the fact that I’ve been an important part of the show for 27 years that has been no. 1 in the ratings," he tells EW. Now, he says, he taped his last episode on Sept. 23 and probably won't ever do another daytime drama. "I doubt that. Never say never in this business or in life, but I doubt that." When asked if he thinks soaps are dying, he says no. "How many reality shows can you watch? They’re so obviously phony. Our show deals with adult problems in a long continuous manner, and very much like the way things are dealt with in real life. In that sense I think there will always be a need for (soaps).

I've watched that show off and on for 32 years. My grandmother had to watch it every day when I was little,so I pretty much had no choice. My wife and I dvr it every day and watch it every night. It's gonna take some getting used to watching it without him on there. But I will get used to his same old shtick was getting kinda old to me anyway. It seems to me like they've been setting Nick and Sharon up to be the new Victor and Nicki anyway. If you're not doing the fucking, then you're taking one.

It's gotten SO stupid, They gave dumb ass Ashley Sharon's baby, I couldn't believe that crap. Lord ham mercy, they might as well just cancel that show right now!! [Edited 10/12/09 19:14pm]

OH HELL NO!!!!
I've been watching that show since I was a kid! I guess Victor's body is going to reject Colleen's heart. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

"Now, you listen to me and you listen good. I don't know who you are or who you think you are. But, I'm Victor Newman! How dare you! How dare you try to write me off of this show! I built this show! How deh yeeeeewwww!"

I just read that. I was a CBS soap kid growing up. My grandma and mom both watched Y&R, As The World Turns, and Guiding Light. I don't think soaps will be around much longer. Our CBS channel here is scrambling to fill time, as is the ABC and NBC one, for daytime TV slots with shows being canceled and moved around.

Mine, too. As I got older, the only one I continued was Y&R. The Bold & Beautiful makes me angry. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

My Grandmom did the same thing, we used to play cards and watch the soaps, lol!!! I still watch Y&R and B&B, I stopped watching Guiding Light once Roger Thorpe(played by Michael Zanslow) left and As The World turns always bored me for some reason. I figured Eric Braden wouldn't except what the suits over at Y&R were trying to make him do, he probably said: "I don't give a damn what you say, u got that?" lol! [Edited 10/8/09 21:06pm]

Mine, too. As I got older, the only one I continued was Y&R. The Bold & Beautiful makes me angry. Once I went into the Navy in early 1987, I gave up on them all. I watched the last 2 or 3 episodes of Guiding Light before it went off the air, but I have no interest in the others at this point. Remember when Capital was on? It was a 1/2 hour show about a political family. Jordy was the spoiled playboy son. http://en.wikipedia.org/w..._series%29

I was shocked when I read the news. The writers started fucking up his character though, in recent months. Maybe it's for the best. I've lost the use of my heart, But I'm still alive, Still looking for the life, The endless pool on the other side, It's a wild wild west, I'm doing my best, I'm a soldier of love, Every day and night, I'm soldier of love, All the days of my life.

for real. I'll never watch this show again if they actually let him go. Victor IS THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS!!!!! You take him away and then you might as well cancel the damn thing. Not like there's nothing else interesting going on in the story line anyway. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Y&R's Braeden Tells All To Digest
As we reported last week, Eric Braeden (Victor) has been written off of Y&R, after he balked at taking a pay cut mid-contract. But it wasn't the idea of a cut that has him riled. Braeden tells Digest, "I am outraged that after 29 years of devoted service to this company and show, which I'm very proud of, to then be dealt with in such a cold fashion ... is so confrontational and so insulting one really has serious thoughts about wanting to continue it." While acknowledging that the current financial crunch makes cuts necessary, Braeden is unhappy with the manner in which the show's offer was delivered. "It's not that one hadn't agreed to a reduction, but they hit you with a sledgehammer," he says. "It's done in such an insulting fashion. It could have been dealt with in a far more gracious way. It is cold and hard-nosed....The whole thing was so calculated it was unbelievable.... It's not even about the money." For more from Braeden, see the next issue of Digest. They are going to regret this!!!!! I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

They are going to regret this!!!!! They aren't going to regret it. All soaps are going through a transition period. All the studios and executives care about is the amount of revenue they make from these shows. It costs a lot to maintain a soap per year. If they can kill of a principal character and keep the soap afloat, then so be it. I love the soaps and hate this is happening, but we live in a different society now. Our new soaps are reality shows (the housewives series are a perfect example). They cost nothing to produce and they don't work as hard. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

My brother's been missin out on Y&R lately so he has no idea of wats happenin...
so on his way to the shower I told him wats goin on wit Victor in Y&R now and wats happenin in real life... and how they're linked... my bro was like "Victor's dying?!" He didn't even want to go take a bath anymore so I had to fully explain everything (exhausting) lol But i'm still crackin up at how my bro almost had a heart attack lol We both grew up on Y&R. Funny story...my mom used to watch Guiding Light everyday while breast-feedin my lil bro (he's 21 now). She said that whenever the intro music comes on my bro would jus let go of her nipple and focus all his attention to the TV... Wat was it about Guiding Light that had him so hooked as a child... I would never know! I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

Its just another sign of the times, Soaps are slowly dying one by one. When they put the grand dame(Guiding Light) into the grave last month the writing was on the wall.
ATWT and OLTL will be the next to go, the only reason AMC is staying around is cause they are moving to LA. It just cost too much $ to produce the shows and with the women now in the work force and busy doing other things Soaps are just loosing too much viewership to continue. Hell I remember coming home from kindergarten and sitting with my mom and watching guiding light, hell I grew up watching that show. I talked to mom the day it went off the air n she felt like she had lost a close friend. The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.
