IMO that's the one where I felt the series (and her writing in general) kind of went downhill. it's one of her last pretty good ones, but she was churning them out at a mind-boggling rate by then and she really needed a stronger editor. her tic for purple prose describing surroundings, down to the fabric on the furniture, got out of hand here while the plot kind of just meandered around the European countryside not really going anywhere for long stretches of the book. unfortunately, after this one, she kind of just started rushing through the plots and not even stopping to bask in the purple prose.

I found Armand enjoyable, but IMO the series started to slip in Tale of the Body Thief. It's not a bad idea for a novel -body switching is done surprisingly infrequently -but I don't think the execution of the plot was handled all that well. There was a whole lot of unnecessary meandering here, too. But after Armand, I gave up. The quality of writing slipped hugely and it was becoming more and more clear that she'd run out of good ideas and just continued to write for the sake of carrying on the series. IMO she should've givenup on the Vampires and started fresh with something brand new instead. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

How about 'The Orphanage' that was good ) Very good... not sure if its more a thriller though? Thriller wise have you watched 'The Jacket' and I thought 'Identity' was good... oh and 'The Number 23' wasn't bad.
I'm not that up-to-date with horrors anymore... if you want an old crap ones have you ever watched the horror 'Jack Frost' or maybe 'Driller Killer' or 'Psychomania'. lol JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...

I didn't think that The Body Thief was too bad... then again I had very low expectations for it so anything had to surpass that. I found the Armand book a bit dull for the most part I'm afraid... though the worse Anne Rice that I've read was probably Pandora... I remember nowt about it now but I remember being really disappointed with it at the time. You tried The Mayfar Witch books? The first one is great and the other couple are ok in my opinion... good reads all-in-all though. JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Isn't that the one where there was an eventual crossover with the Vampires? Seemed like a dodgy idea to me. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Seemed like a dodgy idea to me. the first one (The Witching Hour) is excellent. possibly her best book. it is massive and there is a lot of interconnecting detail in it, but it's pretty enthralling and you don't even mind how long it is. the next two are pretty good too. they do crossover to the last 2 vampire books to wrap up both series, and those books are really bad. especially Blood Canticle.

I haven't read the crossover ones yet... I think I've got about 4 left to read but I space 'em out with other books so I don't get Anne Rice'd out! I would go as far as saying Witching Hour is her best book I've read too... it took me years to actual consider reading it once I had it though cos I very much had the initial feeling... pah witches! JaneyPoos used to be it... then they changed what it was. Now what I am isn't it and what is it is strange and frightening to me...
