No, it just blows. There's plenty of great stuff out there directed at teenage girls. The Twilight series is not one of them. The Twilight series is utter fucking shit, for so many reasons. And my ass, living in Vancouver, has to suffer over flash mobs of teenage girls with bad taste shitting themselves and squealing like injured dolphins whenever they see that twat Pattinson. It's happened to me twice now. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Twilight is for teenage girls who don't have the balls to want to be Buffy or are too young to have been exposed to her Much as I love it, Buffy's not without it's problems. But at least the Buffyverse vamps fight, feed, and fuck instead of simpering and moaning and abstaining. What's the point in a fantasy vampire boyfriend if he's about as threatening as the kid behind the counter at McDonald's? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Don't get me wrong, I liked the newer one, but the old one used sounds and effects that gave you chills. Sometimes the imagination can make things much scarier. That's why I hate gory movies. You should check it out. "Let love be your perfect weapon..." ~~Andy Biersack

I enjoyed it because it introduced a new species of vampires and could appreciate it for that very reason.

I enjoyed it because it introduced a new species of vampires and could appreciate it for that very reason. I gave the series an honest try, but I just can't find anything to commend it. Sorry. The books and the movie are poorly written and the special effects in the movie are amateurish at best, the characters are flat and annoying, the leads have zero chemistry with each other, and the romantic aspect is both cloying and insulting and for such a ridiculously unhealthy dynamic is idealized in a very creepy, traditional gender role sort of way. And the vampires? They may as well be toothless puppies. What's the point in fantasizing about a vampire that doesn't feed, fight, or fuck? At that point, why not just have Edward and his kin be regular guys and be done with it? They're vampires, but they don't do anything vampires do. Why bother? Also, does Kristin Stewart have some sort of tooth deformity that makes her incapable of closing her mouth ever? I know you like Twilight and that's cool for you, but man....I'm sorry. I just can't find a single likable thing about the series, and I tried. Lord, did I try. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Lord, did I try. this was my problem with it as well. i got halfway through the first book and thought "this is just really crap writing." and put it down. and i couldn't get over that it was a complete rip of Buffy, except the protagonist had... like absolutely NOTHING interesting about her and what little personality she DID have was actually pretty unlikable. and what new species of vampires is Twilight supposed to have introduced? how are they any different than the Buffyverse's angsty vampires-with-souls or Anne Rice's use of angsty vampires to tell tales of redemption? everything that Twilight does has been done before and done better on screen and on the page. they're just re-telling it to people that need a ham-fisted version of it with little words to comprehend it.

Co-sign your whole post. Edward is a redux of Angel, who is a redux of Louis. The notion of a vampire concerned with ethics and humanity was a novel and refreshing one when Anne Rice did it. (like her or no, she did bring that to the table) The trouble is, each successive generation of soulful vamp is more and more derivative of the last. Angel is bearable, but only just barely. At what point is it even worthwhile to write a character as a vampire if they're essentially just a mopey guy with sharp teeth? Note: The series The Vampire Diaries follows in this mopey!Guy trend. If you've never seen it, it's essentially Twilight, but this time the hot high school heart throb vampire-who-isn't is a football star. No shit! "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I've been following the "Twilight" posts with interest. I haven't read or seen the movies. I absolutely love vampire books and movies, and the when I heard the concept, I was annoyed, so I never bothered. Plus, that actor that plays Edward always looks like he needs to shower... Anyway, I've been watching "Vampire Diaries"- mostly out of boredom. I was just about to jump in when I saw that you mentioned it. Stefan is kind of annoying; I like his brother Damon, who is the evil one. But overall, it's "Dawson's Creek" with fangs. Anyone going to check out "The Vampire's Assistant"? Is it supposed to be a comedy? "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

Is it supposed to be a comedy? The Vampire Diaries is quite a lot like Twilight in all the most ridiculous ways. Vampire-who-might-as-well--not-be-one, who can go out during the day and is inexplicably physically fit for a guy who died before modern medicine? Check. Smitten, but stupid, human female love interest? Check. "Evil" vampire? If by evil, you mean vamp who behaves like what he is, then check. All this fang-y goodness -in high school! I'm not sure about The Vampire's Assistant. The promotion for it's been very uneven. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be comedy, satire, or a vampire flick that happens to be kind of funny. Don't judge Anne by the quality of those movies that she had little to do with! If you will, so will I
