Whoever wrote that film must have been on LSD or some shit. Waitaminute - didn't Roger Ebert help write the script?????

Yes, Roger Ebert did write the script. I also remember it being rated X at the time. It's still rated NC-17 but I saw it on IFC a few years ago, and while it has a lot of nudity, steamy sex scenes, and gore at the end, I would call it a solid R rated film.

I was expecting something along the lines of softcore porn when I first saw it, yet while it was somewhat along that line, it took me a while to realize that it was a dramatization of the Charles Manson murders. stab

Mommy Dearest was campy due to that caricature that Dunnaway did of Crawford. I just can't believe Crawford would ever overact in real life. and that friggin makeup job was horrendous. Joan was pretty but Faye looked straight up tranny.

I do love that flick tho.

Typical over-sansualized hollywood behaviour.

It didn't help that "Mommie Dearest" was written by that gold diggin' skank daughter of hers, Christina,,,,so you know you'll only hear one side of the story.

Joan was a PRIME bitch on wheel(ask Bette Davis and all those people who worked in MGM) but there was more to her than that,,,,she was a complex woman.

Same with Diane's portrayal of Billie Holiday, the ONLY saving grace in that movie is the kick ass acting,,,,but any Billie Holiday reader will tell you in a heartbeat that she's FAR from that mousy, timid, pitiful soul that got portrayed in the movie. Any person who have been on the focus of J. Edgar Hoover's FBI list and have been on a serious physical rumble with the police, was no easy customer. OF COURSE it also didn't help that Billie's LAST pimp/husband who forced her to sign all of her royalties to him in her death bed was the one who made this movie about himself,,,,and how he um, "loved" her.

But I came to accept the fact that this flick is a vehicle to Diane's acting,,,which she nailed to the bone.

As for Mahogany,,,,,ALL I gotta saw is Diane & Bob Mackie's collaboration gave birth to the MOST vicious costume designs I ever saw love OOOOOMG, a bitch won't drool enough on her shoes drool

lol @ you calling out Joan's daughter

I've never watched Lady Sings The Blues and I've seen Mahogany but I've forgotten most of it confused

I need to educate myself on Billie Holliday. You know how I love to read about great performers cool

2 biopics I didn't really like (although it wasn't from the 60s, 70s, or 80s) were the one about Little Richard starring Leon. I felt it could've been more detailed and could've gone longer. I'd love to see one adapted from his autobiography

and another one is that travesty "Man In The Mirror" ill That crap wasn't worth the 5 dollars they spent to make it lol

I wouldn't blame Faye on her acting, she was amazing at being Joan I thought, yeah she was a bit OTT at times but it's the shitty director that ruined the movie.
