Turned down for job interviews Don't you hate it when you apply for a job that you know that you are more than well qualified for but then you get a "thank you for your interest in our firm, however, you have not been chosen for an interview for the above position. We do encourage you to continue to apply with us again" letters??? It's really frustrating as hell. I really hate my current job right now, and while I'm thankful that I am employed somewhere, it's just healthy to walk into an unorganized place where management consists of people who are incompetent to lead a department. I really feel I don't belong there and I've been applying like crazy to find something better, as well as something with better pay. They don't pay me enough to deal with the bullshit that goes on in that office everyday. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

yeah i said i was thankful i had a job, but its the bull you go through everyday to keep it. i'd rather work two part time jobs that I enjoy than one full time job that gives me unnecessary hell on a daily basis. [Edited 10/2/09 12:08pm] I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I mean I'm just glad that I have a strong drive of looking for something else. Other people I work with absolutely hate where I work at too, but they not really doing anything about it....just come in everyday complaining. I don't get it. How can you complain about something and not doing anything to change it? Doesn't make sense. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I recently applied for a job that is almost identical to the last job I had (except the salary is $12,000+ more/year); today I got an automated email saying they received over 600 applications so the 1st round processing will take longer than anticipated. Six hundred people! The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

15+ years IT experience prior military (8 years) Masters Degree 200+ job applications so far this year Several interviews, all of which I ACED , and no job offers. One of the hiring managers looked at my resume, got scared cause he thought I was a "flight risk" as soon as the economy picks up, and never called me back. If it wasn't for the fact that I saved money up last year in anticipation of moving to the UK, I would be fucked right now. I sort of am anyways, but all my previous colleagues are even worse off from what I hear. E-V-E-R-Y-B-O-D-Y is out of work. So if you're employed, sit tight and count your blessings. I think it's almost over for the US (I think the UK, Germany, and France will lag behind us until later next year), but it sucks complete ass.

That's a lot!! I know! My hometown only had 800 people in it. So that's like 75% of my town. I think I have a good chance of getting past the first round (you have to score 70 points based on whether your skills match the job description), but what if they have 550 who score 70+? Will they change it to say, "oh we're only going to take those who scored 80+"? Then the second round assigns more points based on more skill matches. Those with the highest scores are then sent to the actual museum for them to decide whom to call for interviews. I would like to think I'll have a chance because I've worked for a sister museum, doing basically the same job; but will 599 competitors, it's hard to know. My former colleague who went through a similar process said there were only 120 applicants in her pool, and it took them 5 months to contact her for an interview. I'm trying not to think about it too much or I'll just get depressed. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Because what he could offer me was 30K less than what I was used to making. And I the job only required 5 years of experience and BA. I have 15 years and a Masters. His view was that as soon as a better offer came around, I'd leave. I think people who have lower paying jobs and skills have a fighting chance. Those who are a bit more seasoned are fighting for positions now. Starbucks are slowly being filled up with former exects.

I think my job is going to kill me...it cannot be a good thing to have your heart palpitating and chronic headaches from teeth grinding and tense shoulder muscles and back aching and swollen feet.My stress level is through the roof.
I almost really wish they would fire me today I read some article about people who win the lottery and they are miserable. I need that type of misery in MY life!!! I could easily live on a few mil the rest of my life.

Yeah, I've gotten the "you seem overqualified" before. I was applying for a job managineg the 4th largest department budget at a MAJOR museum, with 85 separate grant/accounts/funds. It was millions of dollars. Prior to that I had managed my project budget of like, $50k. But the first thing HR said was that "I seemed overqualified." How do you answer that? If you say, "No, I'm not. Really!" then you run the risk of sounding like you're not qualified. And if you say they're right, then you're overqualified. I said I was flattered they felt that way, and that although the job required many of the same skills I already had, it was on a much larger scale and as such would still be a challenge. Worst. interview. ever. And I didn't get the job - for which the Director of that Department had recommended me personally. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
