Especially after they introduced more and more "ground fighting" techniques and figured out it really was one of the best way to succeed in close combat (despite the aesthetics). They just try to get as close to the other person as possible, trip him over, tie the other one up with their limbs and slowly knock them out. So I guess the lesson we all could learn from this is that homoerotic self-defense would be also the way to go also in real life situations.
