Hiya.
I've mentioned this in another thread but my all-time favourite director is Wong Kar Wai, very closely followed by Alfred Hitchock. Both absolutely fantastic. I used to love his movies, Amateur & Henry Fool in particular. I'm very out of touch with these things now, & haven't seen one of his films in years. [Edited 9/13/09 2:57am]

Shunji Iwai, Ron Fricke, Atom Egoyan and Thomas Vinterberg are pretty cool. Mainstream-wise, I don't mind Christopher Nolan, Johnny To, Tsui Hark and Martin Scorsese (sometimes). I also hope Mark Romanek does a few more films. I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.

Directors
Spike Lee Stanley Kubrick Quentin Tarantino David Lynch John Sayles Ridley Scott Mathieu Kassovitz (Actually, I think his stuff is just OK... but he's adorable ) Alfred Hitchcock Atom Egoyan Peter Greenaway Martin Scorsese Neil Jordan Alejandro Jodorowsky D.W. Griffin (Begrudgingly ) Francis Ford Coppola Darren Aronofsky Akira Kurosawa Genres I can better identify a loyalty to themes rather than genres, so... Vampires Horror based on classic literature, old folk beliefs, etc. None of that teen slasher crap. Mythology and esoterica Artificial Intelligence Immortality or eternal youth Femmes Fatales LGBT stuff... but not porn so much Stuff dealing with black folks Period pieces Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

You'll be pleased to know he's filming the sequel, Samsara, right now He hasn't done many films but what little he has made is interesting work. Check out Sacred Site, Chronos and Zion Canyon if you can track them down. I'm afraid of Americans. I'm afraid of the world.
