I imagine a lot of these women are married to men they would not have chosen for themselves. UGH.

Imagine the age differences as well, some as young as I am are married to men as old as 70 or more.

I'd bet they feel like prostitutes right about now.

To be honest, I think that would be the last thing they're thinking of.
They're being denied sustainability (because they can ONLY get that from men, sadly) because they deny these men sex.

How the fuck is that fair?

I know that its about control and cultural differences. It was just an subjective statement, the way I would feel if I had to sleep with someone for money, including my own husband. He shouldn't deny her anything, including money and food, regardless. Get to the root of the problem, and find out why she's denying him sex, that's all.

And I suspect, in this instance, one of the reasons why they deny their husbands sex is because their husbands abuse and beat them...

Those women got it bad in the Middle East. Like you said, it's not fair, but all I can say who said life is fair. Sad for them disbelief

But putting it that way just seems like the best thing to do is just to turn away and let it be.
And I don't think that should happen...

he's denying her as a person...no attention, lies, deceit on the flip side, lavishing whoever when he's about twn. doesn't sound like he takes her places and yet she stays demorialized?

No, that's not what I'm saying. What I am saying is life is not all peaches and cream. It's not always right and fair. To be frank, I don't know what should be done.

the question is, from whence are they allowed such control? where and how did they loose the respect they had for mom?

Again, it has to do with cultural differences. What they deemed socially or religiously correct may be wrong in other cultures. However, I do believe in my soul that our Creator would not want a man to mistreat a woman, and vice versa.

How you doin'! nod

But if a person's religious or spiritual beliefs dictate that each person in the relationship is delegated those archtypical roles...and they are steadfast in those beliefs, it leaves little for the rest of us to say or do about it shrug

Okay...?

But anyway I was reading some more about it. It's truly ridiculous and shady. There are many more stories of countries where women are viewed as much less than a man. As for me I believe in and support equality for all.

Check this. disbelief

Bowing to international pressure and unprecedented protests by hundreds of women on the streets of Kabul, the Afghan government promised in April to review a new law imposing severe restrictions on women in Shiite Muslim families.

Last week, though, Human Rights Watch discovered that a revised version of the Shiite Personal Status Law had been quietly put into effect at the end of July — meaning that Shiite men in Afghanistan now have the legal right to starve their wives if their sexual demands are not met and that Shiite women must obtain permission from their husbands to even leave their houses, “except in extreme circumstances.”
