Hot new vampire film: THIRST! THIRST
A priest becomes a vampire…another man’s wife is coveted…a deadly seduction triggers murder. Thirst is the new film from director Park Chan-wook (Old Boy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance). Already a boxoffice smash in Korea, Thirst was honored with the Prix du Jury [Jury Prize] at the 2009 Cannes International Film Festival. http://www.filminfocus.co...lm/thirst/ Very good advance reviews so far (89% positive on Rotten Tomatoes as of today). I might have to check this out when it opens here in NY this weekend.

OMG! I heard about this and the unrated or "mature" preview looks sooooo cool! I can't wait. I know it's in limited release. I hope it shows up in San Jose. Give me a break. It's a wonder they let the collar stay. I guess it's okay to show someone look like they're strangling a priest but not okay to see someone looking like they're having sex with them (legs wrapped around). I don't get it. Why do we find it easier to show violence than sex. [Edited 7/29/09 13:47pm] MyeternalgrattitudetoPhil&Val.Herman said "We want sweaty truckers at the truck stop! I watched "Let The Right One In" because of you. And because of you, I have lost movie-choosing privileges in my home for a month. Thanks a lot.

Correct in that Thirst is not a film for 12-year old girls.

I can see not liking it maybe if you're a fan of Twilight or something, but if you're looking for an original, unconventional vampire film, you can't go wrong with Let The Right One In. The studio just has to fix those incorrect English subtitles on the DVD!

I saw Thirst last night. It was funnier than I expected although one review did mention that humor is a big part of the film. Equally erotic and gory too, it's definitely one of the better vampire movies I've seen. I give it out of five.

I guess I'll have to rent the DVD (that'll be a first!). Definitely see it!!! BUT, try and find a version that has the correct original theatrical English subtitles. The American DVD that came out in March has overly simplified English subtitles which lose a lot in translation. The English dubbed language track on the DVD is correct I've heard, but I generally can't stand watching dubbed films. The British DVD and international Swedish DVD have the correct English subtitles so find one of those. Read about the wrong subtitles story here: http://iconsoffright.com/...in_to.html
