It will be interesting to see where they go with it being a prequel and all. I'm sure Ridley knows what his doing and doesn't go too overboard with unnecessary special effects and the like. I hope they bring it back and make it more of a thriller than an action packed explosionfest Receiving transmission from David Bowie's nipple antenna. Do you read me Lieutenant Bowie, I said do you read me...Lieutenant Bowie

Agreed - bring it back to basics - psychological suspense like the first one - Surely Ridley wont fuck it up - prequel will be interesting - Shame tho as it probably wont feature Sigourney

Anyway, this movie should be a prequel; Warner destroyed the franchise with the dreadful Alien Resurrection, so I can't imagine a new film following the events of that silly/unnecesary fourth part. In addition, if this fifth film means that there will be no more shitty AlienvsPredator films, then we can say THANKS, SIR!

Gladiator is one of the most overrated movies ever.

I wonder what storyline pitch attracted Ridley Scott back? I want to know. I am an obsessive fan of the 1979 film ALIEN. I can draw that creature with my eyes closed. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I agree ,the original was the best, visually, storywise, atmosphere.. Maybe he can hook up with the original design team HR Giger, Ron Cobb, and Moebius, and I know Ridley had artist skills himself. Are they still around ?

I wonder this too. I'm a huge huge huge fan of Alien. I don't even remember how many times I've seen the movie. It's a masterpiece. A haunted house movie turned into art. I do hope he treats the AVP storyline like it never existed, and gets back the business of making a great movie. One thing that I do know is that Scott would not have agreed to film it if the story was just another 'Alien' movie. He's going to want to take it in another direction--expand upon it and make it really cool. Hopefully, he'll stay true to genre expectations (scaring the shit out of its audience). I'm actually both apprehensive and wildly excited.

My picks for female character(s) are: Sigourney Weaver(if it is indeed a prequel then probably not possible) Jodie Foster Julianne Moore Cate Blanchett Gillian Anderson Uma Thurman Male lead Viggo Mortensen Sam Worthington Clive Owen (maybe) [Edited 8/3/09 16:58pm]

My picks for female character(s) are: Sigourney Weaver(if it is indeed a prequel then probably not possible) Jodie Foster Julianne Moore Cate Blanchett Gillian Anderson Uma Thurman Male lead Viggo Mortensen Sam Worthington All very good picks. Although I would love to see him take an unknown actress than an established one. I'd prefer the lead to be a female again because they're just better at showing vulnerability than men in scream flicks. But I'd like to see him do something very similar to Alien in which we don't know WHO the hero/heroine is going to be until shit hits the fan. I remember thinking Tom Skaret was the main actor in Alien until he was killed off. Once he was killed off, the situation just became desperately bleak. It wasn't until about 15 minutes after that scene when I realized Ripley was the main character---Scott kept us guessing what was going to happen to ALL of them. This movie can't afford to be a flick where the boogie man picks off each character until the end--he's got too much of a story to tell. But I'm confident...well, hopefully confident ... that Scott will be able to pull it off and still scare the audience. Back to your question : If I had to pick an actor/actress, I'd probably love to see Jodie foster (as you mentioned) or: Emma Thompson I saw her in the movie "WIT" and her ability to show fear and internal struggle is amazing. It's one of those qualities and actor needs -- a scene can be scary, or horrific depending on how the actor pulls off the emotions in the scene. Emma could make it believable. Uma Thurman She's a great at playing women in desperate situations. And I agree with Sam Worthington.

I love the Alien series. Aliens is my 3rd favorite movie of all time, and I actually love all four.
I never watched any of the AVP bullshit, but I'm happy to hear that another proper Alien movie is coming. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

All you people worrying about them even acknowledging the AvP movies in any Alien or Predator movie fret not as they are set in a totally different universe and aren't even considered part of their respective stories. Sigourney could be in it. She can face down the Aliens in the prequel, die, and then it's revealed that the Sigourney we met in the first movie was a clone that she created with memory implants as a last ditch effort to defeat the aliens the next time around.
Okay, I've seen/read way too much contrived, serialized genre fiction...

The problem I have with combining the two genres is that I've never thought the predator made any sense. I love the first Predator movie--don't get me wrong. But in that movie, you never know if the Predator is a rougue or renegade member of his race, so it's perfectly plausible that he can belong to an advance race that can cross star systems yet still be primitive enough to have the urge for barbaric and archaic bloodsports. But by the time Predator 2 comes out, you realize the entire species is like that--it just doesn't make any sense that such an advance race would be that lacking in empathy or the ability to recognize the intelligence of humans--even as barbaric as we humans have been in history, we still strive to recognize certain rights (I know I know--that's debatable ), and we haven't even advanced towards anything near the Predator race yet. But the Alien. It's a creature devoid of conscience. It's a perfect killing machine not unlike an army of ants. It doesn't need to be (and certainly isn't) human like in any way. The dripping acid for blood part is a bit overdone, but extremaphiles exist--it's still more plausible to me than the Predator race. Mixing the two would have been marginally more tolerable if the movies had been good , but of course they weren't. The first AVP was awful, and the second one was criminally so. Good news that this movie will exist strictly in the Alien franchise.

Surely a prequel cant have any humans in it? Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

i actually really liked alien: resurrection, partially because of the director and the fact that he brought his "repertory" of actors from his other films; partially because i really enjoyed the script, which is odd because i usually dislike anything joss whedon touches. also, sigourney weaver reminded me of trent reznor in this movie.
