The Hurt Locker Best movie of the year and one of the best of the decade.
You keep reminding yourself that it's movie, not a documentary or reality show. There's no gratuitous love interest, although there are love interests. I hate to sound sexist, but I can't believe this was directed by a woman. I say that because the movie is all about men. She gives these men emotion, that men see in men all the time (but movies never do except the P.C. bs). She doesn't try to "understand" them, just let's them be. I want to see it again because I can't believe it is that good. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Oh, Not for children at all. The realism is impressive.
Stretches of tension building silence. Not a date flick unless you are in the military. Of course, violent. Not 'Saving Private Ryan' violent, but with the realism feel it's heightened. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

(BTW..we just came from seeing Transformers 2)...it almost put me to sleep. NOT my cuppa tea.. I was waiting to see it and was surprisingly impressed. Third movie this summer I've seen more than once. "Star Trek," "The Hangover," and "The Hurt Locker." [Edited 7/26/09 19:03pm] I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

sextonseven said: Thank you. I do remember the thread but didn't read it because I planned to see it. My views match the reviewers especially this: "Lastly, Kathryn Bigelow. Thank you for showing men that are not assholes, womanizers or jerks. They're just men. Men that dream of families and lives that they've yet to live. They're men worried about surviving every day, but not whining about it constantly. They just are cognizant of the situation they are in. Also, thank you for giving me a good movie to see today that shows men and robots and wasn't painfully offensive, retarded or insulting. You know... thanks for making a wonderful film!" I saw it again today and was even more impressed with Kathryn Bigelow. I think a lot of guys are impressed to see actual men in a movie. Men they know. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

One of them lost a wheel while driving over rocky terrain in the beginning.

Not sure that that means, but I can't drag my wife to movies like this... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

It's not the frequency of violence that's disturbing. All the violence in this movie is disturbing except the fists. In the military reference, it would give her some idea of what being over there can be like. This movie doesn't discuss the politics of the war like 'Three Kings.' Closer to 'Black Hawk Down' without the Hollywood on it. [Edited 7/27/09 21:46pm] I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I know where you're coming from....she leaves the room whenever I watch BHD, Jarhead, or Saving Private Ryan....she doesn't mind shit like Three Kings... He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.
