It still looks beautiful when on, but you can see the slight screen burn from the ticker and ESPN's side bars mostly when you turn it off. ah OK! I think you just need to watch less sport

I like my 42" Dell LCD, but my Samsung 50" plasma, although the picture is gorgeous, was already burnt in the first year and I don't turn it on more than once a week.
well, we got a 40 inch samsung LCD 2 yrs ago....it started to take longer & longer to turn on...finally it died! since we paid almost $2,000- for it we got it fixed...for $400- next time i buy a big ticket item...I will buy the extended warranty. or else NOT buy from samsung. oh yes, i have heard bad things about plasmas too,,like burn in & they generate alot of heat (my LCD does too) Fuck, you just can't win with these tvs. I'm sure yours died right after the warranty period ended.

yeah...I dont even `remember` being offered the extended warranty...
we got it during boxing week & the store was crazy busy. when we brought the tv in to the repair shop...it was filled with all kinds of broken LCD`s. the guy said when something goes wrong, its usually expensive to fix...un-like rear projection TVs, which seem to last longer & are cheaper to fix. wish i knew that BEFORE i bought mine.

Plasmas have to be conditioned so that they don't get image retention, or burn-in. The first 100 hours of the monitor's life should not have any static logos, tickers or bars on the screen. Just run an anamorphic FastPlay DVD for 4+ days and you're golden. No more burn-in. If a newer unconditioned plasma does get burn-in, it will eventually go away - it's not a permanently damaged unit.
Vizio is one of the better quality monitors of the low quality brands, by the way. The picture should be fine for most applications. The lifespan of their Plasmas could be an issue, due to the company's cost-cutting measures, though. Dead pixels on LCDs will be seen during the manufacturers warranty period, so no worries there. LCDs are prone to bad off-axis viewing and image lag, no matter brand or refresh rate. If you can get a good price on a Panasonic Plasma, go that route. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Although I've never heard of either. I suspect you're making these brands up as part of a cunning ruse.....

The method described by Squirrel is just about the best way to do it but so long as you are watching varied material and not leaving it on any one channel for too long, you should be ok.
However, it is possible to cause permanent burn that will fade but not necessarilly fade completely. Personally I'd never be without plasma, I think it's a much better TV tech than LCD. Had mine for about 5 years now with no problem at all. I was careful with running it in but now I can watch what I want, or play any video games I want, without any worries at all. As for the original question though, never heard of either brand. If I was buying an LCD, I'd go with Panasonic if you can afford it, or Samsung as the acceptable but cheaper option. RIP
