Would anyone even care about god or the bible if medical science could make us immortal?

Do y'all think it possible for medical technology to keep people from dying or bring them back if they do die? Surely there are reasons to NOT do this...population control, ethical issues, etc.

still...

If humans never died, or if medical technology could bring people back to life...would religion lose it's value or appeal???

We certainly can prolong life.

First: wrong forum

Second: Yeah, all of the promises of religion would be out the door if you couldn't die to recieve the wonderful bounty that god has waiting for you after death.

Yep, we would...humans would still have the desire to explain "all this", as well as having that inner question of if there's "meaning to life"...living 2,000 years without worry of death wouldn't eliminate any of those very human things...

Hey Ice, can you suggest a title change for my evolution/metaphor thread? smile

No, nobody would care about the Bible if we were immortal. There is no incentive to behave for a God who's existence you can't be sure of if there is no reward, or haven from something you are afraid of.

Ah, so then those who believe in God (or the Bible) do not "behave" simply because they believe it to be the correct way to live life, regardless of where they feel these "ways" originated...

it wouldn't eliminate the worries, but wouldn't it lessen the worries quite a bit.

It would eliminate the worries of going to "Hell", definitely...lol.. 8) But I meant it wouldn't eliminate the very human need and desire to contemplate if life has any purpose, or to wonder about how all this started...
