It's green if you're close to shore or near a tributary, it's blue if you're in deep water unaffected by coastal currents (said the sailor)...

Its clear.

Sea itself has no colour. It's transparent.

it's kinda brownish in color by me.

I sail out of SF Bay for Ocean Races, also called Blue Water Races. If you look at this satellite pic you'll see the various levels of silt and whatnot that color the water. On the far left, above the inset box, that's blue water. We get a ton of run off from the Delta so there's a all kinds of stuff in the water to color it green or sometimes even brown. Here we have a lot of mud and merda in the sea so it's brown, greenish, very unattractive



but take the cote d'azur, they have white stones and white/yellow sand so the sea is very light blue

It is reflective. Therefore depending on weather conditions, pollution, various debris and fish poo, it's greenishblueishbrownishclear.
