RIP FARRAH FAWCETT 9:52 AM EDT, June 25, 2009
E-mail Print ShareVote LOS ANGELES -- There are reports this morning that indicate family and friends of actress Farrah Fawcett have begun to arrive at her bedside to say their last goodbyes as the pin-up icon battles the final stages of anal cancer. A priest has reportedly been summoned, according to family sources. The 62 year old actress has been hospitalized for the past 2 week, and is now in the intensive care unit. Sources say Fawcett, whose battle with anal cancer was chronicled in the NBC documentary Farrah's Story, is not doing well. "She is being treated for her condition," according to Farrah's publicist Arnold Robinson. Ryan O'Neal is by her side during the latest battle in her fight against the deadly disease. The news about Farrah's hospitalization comes a day after O'Neal told Barbara Walters that while Farrah is "fighting for her life, "I've asked her to marry me, again, and she's agreed." "We will, as soon as she can, say yes," O'Neal, 68, says about his companion since 1980. "Maybe we can just nod her head," he said, with a laugh. "I used to ask her to marry me all the time," O'Neal said for the interview to air Friday on 20/20. "But ... it just got to be a joke, you know. We just joked about it." But now with Fawcett, deteriorating from cancer, "I promise you, we will," says O'Neal. "Absolutely." Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer in 2006. The disease has now spread to her liver and she has given up almost all treatment, according to her doctors. The "Charlie's Angels" star and O'Neal have a son together, 24 year old Redmond O'Neal. Oh, I hate to hear that. I saw the poor thang on TV a few weeks ago and it was too horrible to watch. Back in the 1970s, Farrah, Lynda Carter, and Lindsey Wagner were my alltime favorites. Farrah was one of the most beautiful women on TV and "Charlie's Angels" was still good but never the same when she left the show. I bought the DVD set of the first season a few months ago because I knew that was the season she was on and was my favorite. This is truly sad news. Andy is a four letter word.

So sad. Hell no...he's just wants control of her assets. fuck him. Maybe, but he's been with her off and on for like 25 years. I think there's a little more to it than money. And, anyway, it appears to be something she'd want, too. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I believe in love and think that maybe getting married will give her some form of happiness before she passes on. She put up a great fight the past 3 years and she's quite far gone now I hope her journey is a peaceful one.

Farrah Fawcett Dies of Cancer at 62 http://www.people.com/peo...88,00.html Farrah Fawcett, who skyrocketed to fame as one of a trio of impossibly glamorous private eyes on TV's Charlie's Angels, has died after a long battle with cancer. She was 62. Fawcett died at 9:28 a.m. PST at St. John’s Heath Center in Santa Monica, Calif. She had recently returned to St. John's for treatment of complications from anal cancer, first diagnosed three years ago. Her longtime partner Ryan O'Neal was at her side throughout her final days. Like so much about Fawcett's life – including her bumpy relationship with O'Neal – her heroic struggle to beat the disease was closely followed by her legion of fans. "I've watched her this past year fight with such courage and so valiantly, but with such humor," Fawcett's Charlie's Angels costar Kate Jackson told PEOPLE in November 2007. O'Neal, in particular, remained a steadfast supporter of Fawcett, who, despite her frailty, spent the last months of her life filming a TV documentary chronicling her illness, including several trips to Germany to undergo experimental treatment. Fawcett is survived by her son with O'Neal, Redmond, 24, who is currently serving a prison term in California after repeated drug offenses. Texas Charmer Blonde, blue-eyed and petite – and with a trademark mane as flowing and famous as the M.G.M. lion's – the Corpus Christi, Texas, native was born Feb. 2, 1947, the younger daughter of an oil-field contractor and his homemaker wife. A magnet for male students at the University of Texas at Austin, Fawcett eventually set off for Hollywood. Quickly noticed by casting agents, she began landing small parts in forgettable movies, such as 1970's Myra Breckinridge, based on a gender-bending novel by Gore Vidal. Her role: an ingenuous blonde. In 1973, Fawcett married actor Lee Majors, forever known as Col. Steve Austin on TV's The Six Million Dollar Man. Three years later, she appeared in the cult sci-fi film Logan's Run and began her stint with costars Jackson and Jaclyn Smith on Charlie's Angels. Well-coiffed and scantily-clad, the threesome created an instant sensation, with a weekly following of 23 million fans. Farrah Fawcett's 1976 poster Photo by: Everett Collection Fawcett moved on after just one season. By then, she was already a phenomenon, having donned a one-piece red bathing suit and a perfect smile for her legendary pin-up poster, which sold a still-record 12 million copies. "I became famous almost before I had a craft," Fawcett told The New York Times in 1986, four years after her divorce from Majors. (By then, she was already involved with Ryan O'Neal.) "I didn't study drama at school. I was an art major. Suddenly, when I was doing Charlie's Angels, I was getting all this fan mail, and I didn't really know why. I don't think anybody else did, either."

I am so sad to hear this news. She fought so valiently for her life. I had the pleasure of meeting her about 15 years ago and she was very friendly and seemed so sweet. She has suffered terribly with this cancer, but she is now in peace.

I watched her documentary on TV about a month ago, and it was very depressing and heartbreaking to see her go through such misery. She was going through some really aggressive experimental treatment in Europe which had worked for a lot of cancer patients, so when it didn't help her at all, I knew she didn't have long to live. May she finally be at peace and free from suffering, and remember her for all of the joy and beauty she brought to the world.

I remember when I was a little boy back in the 1970s, I was such a big fan that I got out the phone book and read the directions on how to make a long distance call. I was nervous because I had heard that some stars could be real assholes. Anyway, I ended up with a Los Angeles information operator on the line and she asked what listing I wanted. I said...."Farrah Fawcett Majors but it's probably listed in the book under the name of Lee Majors"....The operator could tell she was taking to a little boy so she said...."Honey, the stars' numbers are unlisted but if you give me the message, I'll be sure and give it to her".
