Okay, so...imagine that, feeling as you do, someone forced you to become a man. Held you down and injected you with testosterone so coarse hair grew on your face and body. Forced you to have your breasts removed and your genitals altered. Made you live as a man. For the rest of your life. No recourse.

If all that happened, against your will, what would you be? Would you be a man? Or would you still be a woman? A miserable woman trapped in a man's body. Against your will. Without a choice.

That is how a transgendered person feels.

this is a good point about the mind set, the problem I have is that surgery doesn't really change a person's sex. It's a fairly superficial solution for such a deep issue. Maybe hormones address deeper change, but changing the appearance of genitals doesn't change their procreative function

But anyway, if I have issues with it it's not really my concern. People should do what they want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.

it doesn't change their biological sex correct but it does change their gender expression to be closer to how they feel.

Don't think of it as changing their sex. Think of it as reconciling the outside and the inside.

true, I can see that, I guess what I'm saying is that surgery doesn't truly reconcile it except at a superficial level.

But if a new pair of shoes can make me feel better who am I to judge?

Its like our Dame Edna Everage!! HIS real name is Barrie Humphreys, which proves that he was born as a MALE, and he keeps his original gender for the majority of his life, but he changes his persona when on stage and during other public appearences ONLY. Then why not just admit that you don't understand and move on. Why take it to the level of denigrating people who have experienced more pain than you will ever know?

transgender exists on a continuum. Dame Edna aka Barrie Humphreys and RuPaul aka RuPaul Charles yes it's his real name are not the same thing as Chaz Bono.

You have transexuals like Chaz who believe they are trapped in the wrong body. They go their whole life thinking this is and suffer much pain and heartarche over it.

You have CrossDressers aka Transvestites that wear the other genders clothes for sexual reasons

You have Drag Queens like Dame Edna and RuPaul and myself who do it for entertainment value or political reason

You have Gender Queer they don't try to pass as the opposite gender but where it's clothing.

I have known one person before & after the transition. The strange thing is I never would have known it happened at all except for the name change, as well as the disclosure that it was happening. But this person didn't change who they were, just just some personal details.

Exactly the point. What if you were born a man but had the exact feelings and needs, wants and desires you have now.

What if you were born a man but would still love to "b able 2 have make-up sessions in Macys, wear gorgeous perfumes and make-up, wear beautiful clothes and shoes and bags, and a million other things that women love 2 do and only women can!!!!!"

So let me get this straight. What about the thousands of women who, against their wishes, lose function of their ovaries and uterus due to different diseases such as cancer or polycystic ovary syndrome or uterine cysts? Some of these patients lose hair on top of their heads, grow stubble (some full-on facial hair), become unable to menstruate or carry children--what would you say about them? Should they just 'accept' what 'God' meant for their bodies to do? Or are they allowed to undergo hormone therapy?

Or the myriad of other diseases/situations that cause hormonal havoc for men and women up to and including full-on ambiguous genitals or transsexualism at birth? Are they also part of your God's fucked up plan?

I was thinking along the same lines...what about a baby born with a deformity? Often one surgery can correct a birth defect and allow a child to walk, or fix a facial defect, etc....shouldn't they just be happy with what God gave them or how God made them?

So basically you are equating disease with being a transexual and blaming God for the mutations that may occur in some humans as they do in other animals?

I agree with Desire2006 that a hairstyle and makup which can be changed on any given day at the owners request does not fall in line with this thread.

Chastity is fucked up in the head IMO. She gonna wait all this damn time, having had all the resources and support groups at her disposal, to decide she want to be a dude? Excuse me...live as a dude? What if she changes her mind again after all is said and done? I think some people have issues that cannot be cured with surgery.
Also, let's be real...gender cannot really be changed, only athestically altered.

Gender is a social construct. It's up society to to decide what gender and it's said roles are.
