If they're mosquitos, then you should be able to hear them when you turn off the lights.
Otherwise, check your mattress for other types of bugs (as has been mentioned above). Wash your sheets in hot water (we once had a mosquito IN THE SHEETS that just stayed in there biting us). If it's gnats or noseeums then you're outta luck. I don't know how to get rid of those things. They fly right through the screens and they aren't affected by citronella. They are kind of irritating, but much less irritating than mosquitoes! [Edited 5/25/09 22:02pm]

someone said garlic in here.
that is perfect. keep in mines that mosquitos love bananas and sweet fruits. so try to avoid those. i keep a basil pot next to my window on summer days. mosquitos hate basil, the scent. lemon seems to work as well.

[Edited 5/24/09 19:07pm] I think they itch, but have you inspected your mattress seams just in case? If you do have any, you might not have just a couple, but more than a few. How long have you had this problem? Just this month, but I always have a problem with mosquito bites when it starts getting close to summer. ...lite it up on my porch, haven't seen one since. I have tried these before, but did'nt really see much difference. I might try these and I am going to try the Skin So Soft lotion as well. Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

I was told today by a co-worker that in Chile, they hang a bag of water nearby and it keeps them at bay.

Standing water usually attract mosquitos though, doesn't it? anyhoo, I'd reccommend *skin so soft by Avon, it's great stuff *citronella candles *any products by the "OFF!" brand *a mosquito net over your bed. the white ones are cute andmake the bed look all dreamy.

The healthiest option without the use of chemicals is an organic moisturiser that contains pure pressed extra virgin olive oil, I use certain brands on a daily basis and it works for me.

Standing water usually attract mosquitos though, doesn't it? Yeah, you'd think so. It's probably an old wives' tale...but I'm itching to find out (no pun intended). By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Are you supposed to rub your skin with orange or lemon zest or something?
We get a lot here. It comes and goes with how much they bite you though. I'll go 2 weeks without any bites and then suddenly get lots of them. Always lots of mozzies flying around, it's just sometimes they go for me and sometimes they don't. I wonder what that's about.

The times I get bitten most are when having barbecues out the front of the house and I'm drinking beer.

May sound silly but, a fresh dryer sheet rubbed liberally all over exposed skin can keep them away as well. Carry one in your pocket and I have found they stay away as well.
Many a nites can't be wrong. There are also misquito plants...they keep 'em away too.

We use lemon eucalyptus oil ( essential oil ) blended with olive oil - works very well in the woods camping
We also buy cheap dollar store "listerine" and make a spray 50/50 with water and spray all around our tents and chairs - seems to help as well

Crazy but I have heard this idea too. My favorite product is the one Muse is allergic to but recommended because it does not smell like OFF! but works like OFF! Another tip that I found quite true. Darker clothing such as black or blue attracts mosquitos, so don't wear your navy blue beater to the campfire!
