How do you keep mosquitoes away?

I go to bed at night, and there are none of them in my house, and wake up with bites. Anyone know of something that I can put on that keeps them from biting?

Take lots of vitamin B1 (thiamine)... it take a while to build up in your system, but keeps bugs away; and try:

it's marketed for dogs, but it's a natural substance that is safe for humans wink

Avons skin so soft product ( an afterbath oil) is famous for keeping them away.... It does work.... I happen to be alergic to it....

Unless you want to go with a repellant spray, which can be pretty unpleasant, I'd do the Skin So Soft thingy Muse suggested.

Depending on your decor, you might also consider draping netting around your bed. It can actually be kinda sexy.

I have heard of the Skin So Soft stuff to,but wasn't sure it actually worked. I think my Mom might actually have some,so I'll see if she minds if I borrow some to try it out, before buying a bottle myself. Thanks for the suggestions! biggrin

when we had a plague one year, my dad gave us a quota each - we had to kill 10 each day. I don't believe it made a significant difference, I guess 40 less at our house was better than nothing!

This may not help much but I heard that planting basil helps repell mosquitoes.

This site may be helpful if you are looking for a natural repellant:

I think they itch, but have you inspected your mattress seams just in case?
If you do have any, you might not have just a couple, but more than a few.

How long have you had this problem?

Last month I had them swarming all over my front porch at night, gigantic ones, never had that happen before, it was scary trying to get in and out of the house, not only to keep from getting bitten, but letting a couple in the house. I got this stuff...

...lite it up on my porch, haven't seen one since.

Will any of these keep flies away from dogs and humans on the beach? They bite so hard they draw blood and ruin a beautiful day.

Eat a lot of food with garlic in it...it makes you taste icky to insects. If you don't want to smell icky to humans, I'm sure the garlic pills would work to.
