Morning sickness help!

I am hoping my fellow orgers can help me out. Christina is suffering from some awful morning sickness, 100 times worse then she had with Seyhan. I am searching for any helpful home cures, over the counter meds that folks know about etc. Christina is really hoping for some awesome ideas from you all.

I wish I had more answers for her, but I never really suffered morning sickness like she is having. Poor child, she is hurting.

My wife had it bad too, she used sea-sickness wristbands that hit a pressure point in your wrists. It reduced that severe nausea for her to more of a queasy feeling. Basically it made it bearable but didn't eliminate it altogether...

There are also some that provide a mild electrical current to those points but again these are for seasickness so I don't know about voltage and pregnancy... ask a Dr.

Thanks, she tried crackers today...but was back in the bathroom. sad She will have to ask her regular Dr. about any help, since the Air Force won't let her see a OB/GYN until she is 8 weeks along.

hug Sorry to hear that your daughter is having such a rought time. As amorbella suggested, I would have Christina see a doctor. Surely there is something that the doctor can give Christina that will help her nausea.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I had it pretty bad Moni. My doc gave me phenergan. It works well, but makes you pretty drowsy. Reglan is another and it doesn't make you quite as drowsy. I know you said home cures and OTC, but if nothing else works she may be able to ask her doc about them.

Poor thing! sad

I feel for her. Mine was worse when I was pregnant with Noah and of course Conner was 2 and I just couldn't lay down and rest. Ugh. I don't miss that at all! lol

I only had morning sickness with one of my 4 children. I found that there was only ONE food that made me feel normal, chinese stir-fry chicken salad from Red Robin! I ate one every friggen day, the only other "supplement" to that was water, everything else made me throw up. I hope she finds something her stomache agrees on. pray
p.s.
I have never eaten another red robin salad again. eek

Oh poor Christina! I had horrendous hyperemisis with both of my pregnancies - sick as a dog for 22/24 weeks, ended up being admitted to hospital a few times with both of them and tore my oesophogus, so I can totally relate rose

In the uk they are extremely reluctant to give pregnant woman any medication (due to the tholyidomide thing). They gave me something, but the effects were short lived.

Anyway - the most effective thing for me was to eat small amounts of bland food regularly, keeping the sugar levels up staves off the queasies a little. Ginger also appears to help; Ginger biscuits, Ginger ale.. In America they sell Ginger lollipops called 'preggy pops' (I think I saw them in a shop, I think it was called 'Motherhood'). Keeping hydrated is also key - sprite helped me, some think its better fizzy but it helped me more when it had gone flat.

I used those sea-bands, though I can't be sure they helped much... In fact they made my wrist sore where the button pressed in, though they're definately worth a try. I had accupuncture when I was having Faye, made me worse for a day or two but then I felt much better.

Above all, the the one thing that helped me the most was getting plenty of sleep - especially in the afternoon. Its SO much more difficult with your second child, but I know you're a fantastic memaw and you'll be running round, taking care of them all.

If it helps I can give you my email address for you to pass on to her, I'd be more than happy to offer my help and support (such that it is!)

tell her I said that's she's to take extra special care of herself and give her a hug from a fellow sufferer hug
I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

C'mon and dance while you, while you still have your cherry babe, cherry babe..

She isn't keeping food in her, and right now her hubby is away for training, so she is getting sick and trying to care for Miss Seyhan. I am thinking if it doesn't get better she will have to see her regular Dr. I just hate seeing her like this.

And right now the only thing that sounds good to her is cheese. lol

She has tried the preggy pops, and she says they help as long as she has one in her mouth, but as soon as she is done, it hits her again.

Careful with herbs in pill form, Moni. They can be really harsh on the stomach. I'd recommend brewing teas instead. Boil some sliced fresh ginger in fresh water, simmer for 20 minutes, strain and drink with honey.

Yes was thinking she might have something up her sleeve. lol

a quick cut and paste - RED WINGS GAME Party to get read for now hug

Natural Morning Sickness Remedies
Here are five natural remedies that are used for morning sickness.

Diet

The following diet suggestions may help relieve morning sickness:

Eat frequent smaller meals, so that you are never too hungry or too full at one time

Avoid fatty or fried foods

Keep crackers, bread or toast, cereal, or other bland foods handy. Try eating a few crackers before getting out of bed in the morning.

Identify any triggers and avoid them

Make sure you are drinking enough fluids, especially if you have been vomiting. Try drinking in between meals rather than with meals, which some women find helpful.

Acupuncture

One study looked at 88 pregnant women with hyperemesis, a severe form of morning sickness. Women received either an anti-nausea drug called metoclopramide or twice weekly acupuncture sessions for two weeks, plus acupressure. Both treatments were found to reduce nausea and vomiting intensity. Acupuncture was more effective than the drug in improving psychosocial functioning.

Acupuncture Fact Sheet

Acupressure Wrist Bands

Acupressure wrist bands, often marketed as "sea bands", stimulate an acupuncture point called "pericardium 6" (p6), which is known in traditional Chinese medicine to relieve nausea. It is a wrist band with a plastic button that puts pressure on the p6 point inside of the wrist. They usually cost less than $10 for a pair and can be found online or in some health food stores. It usually begins to work immediately.

Ginger

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a common remedy for morning sickness. It has been used for centuries in cooking and medicinally. The Food and Drug Administration classifies ginger as "generally recognized as safe".

It's quite common for medical doctors, midwives, naturopaths, and other health practitioners to recommend ginger for morning sickness. Four double-blind, randomized clinical trials support this recommendation. The dose used in the studies was a total of one gram of ginger per day, taken in divided doses, for four days to three weeks. This is equivalent to half a teaspoon of ginger taken four times a day. It can be steeped with hot water for five minutes to make a hot ginger tea.

Some sources say there is not enough information about the safety of ginger in pregnant woment to recommend it for morning sickness, saying that ginger inhibits an enzyme called thromboxane synthetase and may possibly influence sex steroid differentiation in the fetal brain. Studies have not confirmed this.

Another concern is that ginger interferes with blood clotting and may prolong bleeding time. A study that followed 187 women who had taken ginger during the first trimester found no statistically significant difference in the number of malformations, spontaneous abortions, and stillbirths.

Peppermint Essential Oil

The aroma of peppermint can help a queasy stomach. Fill a large bowl with hot water. Place two drops of peppermint essential oil in the bowl and place it on a table near your bed. Make sure it is in a safe area so there is no risk of it being knocked over. Or use an aromatherapy diffuser, which can be purchased at some health food stores.

Thanks for the link...I will pass this on to Christina. I told her to eat what she craves, when she can keep food in.

I am not even pregnant and that sandwich sounds yummy. lol

Absolutely! I found that for days on end I could only eat cheese sandwiches, then it would be a week's worth of chocolate croissants, then only cornflakes, then there was the month I couldn't leave the room without carrying a packet of chocolate hob nobs... lol Now isn't the time to worry about nutritional values, if it's the ONLY thing she can eat then that's what she should have nod

As long as she drinks plenty - I'd stay away from orange juice though thumbs up!

Is there anyone that can help her out with Seyhan?

She should ABSOLUTELY see a doctor! It doesn't matter that she isn't due to see her ob/gyn, they may be able to advise her or prescribe something.

Please tell her to be really careful with herbs and alternative therapies, they're not really recommended before 12 weeks and even then should only be used with a qualified practitioner.

Poor thing... comfort
I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off

C'mon and dance while you, while you still have your cherry babe, cherry babe..
