Do you turn in you aluminum, glass, and plastic for money? What is the most money that you have got at one time while turning it in? [Edited 5/19/09 23:00pm] Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. ~Berthold Auerbach

Just plastic water bottles and glass beer bottles.
Probably get about 2 or 3 dollars a month back.

I'd do it, but the nearest depot is about 8 hours away in another state

Just the plastic and glass. In NY you kind of have to or you lose money on some level.
On a larger note, I'm all about being green, recycling, etc etc. So whether it was for money or not, I'd recycle it.

We have the normal recycling bin for all of the recycleables that you can't get money for (cardboard, paper, etc.) I am just amazed at the people that do not sort there stuff, and turn it in. I don't know if it's just laziness or the fact that they don't know that they could be getting some extra cash for these items. Like my neighbors,he works 2 jobs, and yet they are constantly just dumping there glass beer bottles into there recycling bin. I figure I would rather get the extra money, than give it to the City Waste Management. Yesterday I turned in our pile, and I got $100. [Edited 5/20/09 0:09am] I'll tell you why people don't sort out the stuff they could get money for (well, why I don't do it, at least). It's because municipalities lose money on their recycling programs - especially if all they have to recycle is plastic (for which there is virtually no market) and paper. I leave my aluminum cans and glass in the recycling because I am trying to stave off an increase in my property taxes to prop up a stupid recycling program. So there you go. You got your $100...but with cities in the lousy shape they're in, that money will probably go back out of your pocket in taxes. Congratulations! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I regularly turn in 2 large garbage bags full of crushed cans for which I get about $20-$25 dollars... takes about three months to fill but in the end I get dough and I recycle so A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon

we have a really good deposit/return system here. (86% of all containers sold are returned.) there is no curbside recycling unless you pay a private company to come get it.
so yes i return my recyclables for money but it's my own money i'm getting back

I was saving them for my nephews to take back.
I hardly have any recyclables anymore, but whatever I have, I still save for them.

It's cool, though. Whatever we don't want, we just dump in Michigan. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I collected cans once. I got 10 bucks. I was flat broke with no way to get to a job that wanted me to start in the next coupla days. I was in my teens and I distinctly remember being highly embarrassed about it at the time.

Does that mean that there are no recycling centers that you can take them back to for redemption?

Does that mean that there are no recycling centers that you can take them back to for redemption? I'd just assumed there weren't because the city does it. I guess I should probably check. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
