One of my all time favorite female characters on a tv show was "Rebecca Howe" from Cheers. In an interview she said that while she was filming Cheers, the producers kept asking her to take off a few pounds. I think she looked perfect!

Love Miss Kirstie Alley, no matter what.

omg I never knew that. I don't understand why the producers wanted her to lose weight, she looked great just the way she was. disbelief

Remember the Donnie& Marie Show in the 70's? They did the same thing with Marie Osmond...the producers took her out into the parking lot at the onset of filming and said she needed to lose 10-20 lbs to always remain camera ready and ensure the success of the show doh!. It's horrible when she looked fine as it was ,but if you look at old clips of Marie at the height of her variety tv fame, she really looks anorexic. It's a wonder she made it through the filming schedule being that unhealthily restricted nod

She needs to lose that weight by any means necessary, THEN she can focus on being healthy lol

Seriously, people like her, Oprah and Janet will ALWAYS have these weight problems. They are obsessed with food shrug There is no way to get around it.

I think it would be a better idea for her to concentrate on her health first,no? As in lose what is reasonable for her to remain on this earth with her kids...?Or is it all about her fitting into a size 2 for the tv cameras to be the Comeback Kid that the public loves and approves of? hmm

does it ever occur to anyone that some people are genetically heavy? Not obese mind you but not a size zero either. With regard to women, we are biologically designed to have more body fat then men and it is critical to our reproductive health and also the fat protects the fetus if the woman is pregnant.

The average size of women for many decades has been anywhere from a size 8 to a size 14 with much of it depending on height and diet. Its never been natural for women to be ultra thin. NOt to say you don't have naturally thing women but the majority of women have curves. The more one diets in an effort to lose weight and achieve a superficial size that may not be part of their genetic makeup, then the more likely they are to gain that weight back and then some.

I think Kirstie tried too hard and too fast to lose the weight and it has thus backfired. If she stops thinking about how fat she is and what people say then food will cease to become the enemy. She needs to have a healthy mindset and be in a relaxed/calm stress free state and she will notice that the weight will come off on its own and she will be making changes to her eating habits without even thinking about it. Our bodies are smarter than we give credit. When our brain is out of whack our bodies let us know.

No one said anything about tv or being a size 2. I said she needs to lose the weight by any means necessary...not necessarily for others, but for herself. It's safe to say that she's not doing much for her health or kids by eating herself into oblivion.

She says the producers were so mean to her they would ask the wardrobe department to figure a way to "hide her fat" they would say this in front of everyone. She got such a distorted view of her body, she finally did gain a lot of weight. sad

clapping Well put.

Most of the women in my family are bigger. I'm not, though to be honest I'm not sure what genetic throwback or recessive gene caused me to be a completely different build than all my women family-folk. But should the day ever come that I develop the family ass and belly, I'll be okay with it as long as I'm healthy. I'd rather be fat and happy than starving myself to be skinny and miserable for it.

So what if she wanna ride the Krispey Kreme truck on her way to McDonald's to confess her love for Jack in The Box whilst hiding a secret affair with Wendy's. Clearly the girl likes soda pop, chips and cheeseburgers and if Hollywood wasn't stuck on bones and skin and skin and bones with your random silicone sandwhich, Kirstie wouldn't have an eating disorder. She's had problems with her weight since she first came to this rat trap town and used to be bullemic. We all knew the weight was gonna come back. I say...OWN YOUR FAT KIRSTIE. Focus on being healthy and not thin.

Being anorexic isn't healthy. Being obese isn't healthy. Some people are genetically predisposed to being a little "thick", but for a lot of people that is just an excuse. Most of it is just eating unhealthy and lack of physical activity.

It makes me more than a little mad that people would throw away an opportunity to be completely healthy. To wake up every morning full of energy, a clear mind, and diabetes free is beautiful thing. As a Type I diabetic, I didn't have that choice. It pains me to see healthy people walking into a life of diabetes because they won't stop eating unhealthy things.

I have seen Type II diabetics who were diagnosed at 40 or 45 and they just would NOT change their unhealthy lifestyles. Some of those people are blind. Some of those people have had limbs amputated due to diabetic complications. Some of those people are dead.

To sum it up, I am just saying to take care of yourself and find a nice healthy balance.

I loved Designing Women. I have the episode on dvd where they finally addressed the issue of Delta/Suzanne's weight gain titeld "They Shoot Fat Women, Don't They?". I remember they tied the storyline into awareness for what was happening with the East Africa famines at the time.

That's the price of fame. You put your business out there, people will comment on you, positive or negative.

But what for? I understand that celebrities get scrutinized like nothing else, and believe me, there are a lot of legitimate reasons to criticize performers like Britney IMO. But why pick at an area like weight where she is still faring better than the majority of the population?

Seems a bit hypocritical, doesn't it, for people to call Britney Spears fat and then saddle up at the local McDick's for a triple order of Big Mac's.

Human nature, I guess. I hear overweight people comment on other people's weight all the time. I'm like, you gotta be kidding me - have you looked in the mirror lately? lol

Its just sad that women are always targeted when it comes to weight. I think these hollywood producers are secretly pedophiles and want women to look like little girls cuz it turns on their twisted brains. I mean think about it....why do so many films have thin leading actresses who are much much younger than their male co-stars. Just a theory mind you. Ok back to the fat talk. lol
