What little I know about Basquiat is that he started out homeless, and would be around Greenwich Village, and paint his way to success. He died of AIDS, and his paintings is worth a lot of money. I believe that he was personal friends with Madonna back in the day.

This artist friend of mine and I do collaborations and we thought it might be fun to recreate the poster where Basquiat and Warhol have the boxing gloves on.That's where that mess started. lol

it was a movie by Julien Schnabel, a close friend to both Warhol and Basquiat
i suggest the diving bell and the butterfly as the next of his movies to watch afterwards nod

make sure you're in an "open" mood if you know what i mean lol
there's no real plot - i've been told it's to be watched as a day in the life of a new york artist - but some of the happenings are so NOT realistic lol

I thought he died of AIDS, but I stand corrected. BTW, doesn't his picture as a little boy remind you of MJ's.

He was a heroin addict and I thought he died of an overdose. Regardless, he was a genius taken too soon and Warhol used him for his talent. Jeffrey Wright played the hell outta that part. He really became Basquiat.

that's the general opinion yeah
but i think he knew all about those rumours of exploitation
i'm sure he used Warhol to his own benefit too to some degree..
the art world is never fair lol

nod Oh no doubt. Basquiat wouldn't have had access to the wealthy patrons and art world connections if it weren't for Warhol. But Warhol was a notorious user of other people's talents. Steve Kaufman, an artist whom I'm collecting, was Warhol's assistant at the time of his death and was doing most of the work on Warhol's pieces before he died and finished all of his commissioned works at the time of his death. Steve had a stroke a few weeks ago coincidentally.
