Foreign words & Phrases that sound funny to you OK, whether you're french, English, Thai, German, etc. etc., I think most of us find words used in other languages often funny.
As low brow as this is ausfahrt (german word for 'exit') is still a ridiculously funny word to me "Take a turn at the ass-fart" we like to say But I just realize when when I order Thai food, I ask them to make everything "very spicy", which in Thai is..... is.... PET MACH Pet Mach Get it? Pet Mach ??? Get it? Get it?

My highschool english teacher (who was a native englishman) got huge laughs at a supermarket here in Finland when he saw bags of crisps/chips that are called Mega Pussi. Allow me to introduce: Ms. Onder and Mrs. Donk! (o)(o)

You are breaking your overnight fast, not "braking" your overnight fast. |

No, brake=brakes on a car or bike etc ....break= end/damage, your definition would be to stop moving the fast whereas the original would mean to end as in break a vow.

No. Break-fast...as in breaking your overnight fast. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

No. Break-fast...as in breaking your overnight fast. putting the brakes (stopping) on your fast could work too! 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Well, lots of words are pronounced in ways that differ from how they look. Pronouncing "break" as "brek" is pretty logical when you're talking about a language that can get "Peggy" out of "Margaret." Or compare it to sergeant, colonel, and women.
