Just in my daily life, I'd be hard pressed to point feminine looking men walking down the street. I should say men, adult men, not some teens or 20 something going through some-type of phase based on fashion or fad. Besides I think "macho" is far more a state of mind and behaviour more than based on a look(s), her article doesn't hold up. (IMHO) Or, let me say I'm skeptical of the study.

I used to mess around with a musician who wore eye make-up and "man skirts"...in the end I found it was part of the persona he needed onstage to feel, I don't know, rebellious or bigger than himself as a nice, classically trained, midwestern boy. Outside of arena tours and award shows the kid wore t-shirts, jeans, baggy shorts like everyone else...or just dressed like an urban, contemporary, metrosexual adult when the need to dress normally would arise. No eye make-up, no contacts. Only John Lennon spectacles, the occasional black cashmere turtleneck, with very well tailored shoes...the stage persona was in complete contrast to this James Talyor-ish offstage looking person with overpriced hair products . So for the West,I actually think so much of that is tied up in persona...outside of an arena situation, these are dudes that have pajama pants from Target just like the rest of the men out there who don't do music.
I will say that I think this is also a cultural topic as well to examine differences between eastern and western perception of attractiveness. I've found that in Japan, for example there is great emphasis on everlasting youth for both men AND women, with great pressure to be stick thin, and have skin that resembles a baby that is hairless for women and with as little hair as possible for men, with everyone attempting to appear as if they are nearly adolescent (and thus almost unisex in some ways)...chalk it up to cultural differences | |

When I think of feminine behavior I think of warm and nuturing kinds of behaviors. This is not to say that all women act that way but when I think of feminine, that's what I think of.
