my hair is pissing me off!

Good gravy....I need help with this mess.

My hair is thick and I suppose medium in texture. It's just wavy/curly enough to be a pain in the ass, but not enough to look good. Ah, the genetic legacy of mixing Native with Scottish and German. lol

Now that the weather's starting to warm up I'm getting all kinds of frizz. I know I need a trim -badly -and I will get to that, but can anyone help me out here? I don't want to get into using a lot of product or fancy tools or anything.

Org Wimmins -what do you do with your hair when it starts misbehaving?

I have dry thick hair. It is not thick and curly or thick and straight. When I let it air day it looks like a frizzy lions mane.
I have to blow dry it after I let it air dry for a bit. Then I have to either use a flat iron or my big curling iron to get the frizz out.
I have tried all sorts of products and they usually make my hair thicker, more stubborn and harder to manage.

I usually try to go a day or two in between washings and some times use a spray in conditioner.
A good shampoo and conditioner, blow dry and curl or straighten.
I have lots of hair as well as it being thick, it is a long process.
Sadly, I look horrible with short hair and I can only be bothered to pay someone to cut my hair often enough to keep a short do, I usually get it cut every 11 weeks or more.

So...you want it to look different...but you don't want to cut it or use product or tools.

Good luck with that! wave

To be fair, I think she is seeking input on doing something differently, she is just hoping to find answers that don't involve a bunch of product and styling tools.

Not insane, just insanely difficult. lol

You CAN do your hair without products and styling tools.

Dry - curly - often frizzy hair here nod

I started using one product about a yr ago and have had zero frizz issues

I actually admire folk who go to such lengths to keep a natural lifestyle. (making their own concoctions).

I'm too lazy and just figure primitive man didn't look so hot for a reason.

In that case...my best advice for her is not to try to make her hair something it isn't. Find the right stylist - i.e., someone who does a great job on your hair type - and give him/her free rein.

You actually don't need a lot of product or tools if you get the right cut. The cut is critical. Everything else flows from there.

I have fine hair that also has irregular curl and is extremely slick and shiny. (My stylist has told me more times that I can count that she's never seen hair as weird as mine.) Even so, because I have the right kind of cut, I can use two products (foam when it's wet for lift and a defining whip after it's styled to keep it smooth) and a quick slide-through with a flat-iron and go from wet to finished in 10 minutes.

Tools and product make it easier - not more difficult. shrug
