Altho theres a recession there is jobs out, our workplace has been recuiting on a regular basis its just that more ppl are going for the same job.

what kind of job you after? writing, editing or assistant photography ( want to learn more, got into it a while ago but decided recently I'd love to make it a career) before I can do things like weddings ( which is what I would like to ultimately photograph along with landscapes and other events on my own. My online profile: http://www.flickr.com/mihadali writing- not technical writing but articles whatever need be ( as I've done in my other positions) and scripts for television or editing [Edited 4/10/09 1:39am]

be out there.
Build a Linkedin profile. Get on some messageboards that focus on your expertise. Get on Twitter, get in touch with people working in your field. Communicate. and send unsollicited applications rather than apply to jobs in papers. A lot of companies post vacancies in papers because it is cheaper than advertising, so they get their brand out (and look succesful). Also, choose which companies you send applications to. That in combination with unsollicited applications, will give you an edge because there are obvious reasons why you chose that company, while the others are merely looking for a job. Recruiters are more and more looking for a good match with the corporate identity rather than just another employee; I've recently contacted a company through Twitter and we're negotiating right now

Ha !
get a Flickr account (apart from your personal one), and link it to your Linkedin profile. Build a decent (hardcopy and online) portfolio. Maybe start a blog about your photograpy & writing. Invest in a good business card :

Invest in a good business card : how do you link it to your linkedin profile? Do you just type the address in at linkedin? Cause i've done that already. Still not really sure what to use to display them so that they don't get ruined. Start a blog. good idea ok.
