But, it isn't like there aren't gymnasium-roaming dudes that don't look like they could use a makeover.Our entire culture teaches that women aren't good enough if they're not young, thin, and hot. That lesson is drilled into the brains of boys and girls from a very early age. So girls get the idea they have to be perfect all the times, and boys get the idea that while they personally don't have to worry about perfection, they have every right to criticise a girl who isn't. I see a fair bit of this here in Thailand. I'd have to say it's usually to do with money. It's often insecurity, both emotionally and financially. The base need for an end to struggling combined with a lack of belief that they deserve more, or indeed a loss of faith in the possibility of having that 'more' (a totally loving partner, not just the physical attraction, with money not being the overriding factor). Or even being jaded and not believing that way, that 'more', is actually better or more anyway. Like altered views on relationships, through socialization, life experience, opportunities etc.
For the men (see Louis Theroux's episode about dating companies in Thailand), they believe they're better than Thai men for a Thai woman because they're nicer, allow more freedom of thought and action, are less prone to violence, are more faithful, and can provide financial security. I'd say it's nearly always about the last point, but many men here have this sense of entitlement than I think is often deluded and arrogant and sets them up for a fall. They can be insecure too (often divorced in the West prior to coming to Thailand) and might be going through a mid-life crisis. They might think... - I'm older, experienced, not running around cheating. Women like this. - I have a big dick, bigger than Thai men. Women like this. - I have lots of money. Women like this. - I won't beat her. All Thai women live terrible, terrible lives and want to be saved. Women like this. - I'm chubby, not fat. Cuddly. Distinguished, not old. My woman genuinely likes this type. She told me so. That's just from what I see in Thailand though.
