4 abortions in 12 months? she needs her tubes tied. (UPDATED)

Agree with me, 4 abortions in 12 months is excessive right? RIGHT?!?!?

UPDATED BIT: Sorry, was occupied with something else, for those who need a little background this refers to one of the clients who uses a family planning clinic I own in partnership. I have no clinical decision making powers, that's up to the medics.

What I understand is that she will be referred back to her GP if she requests our services again.

Agree but I have no problem with abortion as birth control. This person should probably not be a mother right now.

I wish I knew who we were talking about, but that's insane. Abortion shouldn't be used as birth control, it's an abuse of the right to do it. Whoever she is, she needs to invest in the pill or condoms or, like you said, tie the damn tubes. That's some ridiculous shit disbelief

I have a friend who had an abortion about 3 or 4 weeks after having another (her fifth and sixth abortions overall... at least that she's shared with me). At that rate, she could have had more than 12 abortions in 12 months.

Excessive? I govern only myself, but I'm inclined to say yes.

Who are we talking about? Just some random woman you know who had four abortions in 12 months? Not that I want a name or anything; I just don't understand this thread.

That said, can I ask a genuine question: If one abortion is okay, what's wrong with multiple ones? I hear people saying that abortion as birth control is bad, but abortion is always birth control. So if a woman wants to do it multiple times, why is that worse than doing it once?

And just to be clear, I'm pro-choice and have no problem with it. I'm just curious why there is a line drawn for some people.

No, abortion is not always birth control. Condoms aren't 100% all the time - if you tried to protect yourself & got pregnant anyway I can see having one if it's not the right time in your life to have a baby. But to have complete disregard for the possibility of pregnancy & use abortion as a fallback is irresponsible, crude & disgusting imo. It is NOT the same...

I don't really care if a woman wants to have an abortion a month. That is on her and her decision alone.

I just meant that abortion prevents birth and therefore is birth control. Condoms are contraception.

I don't wanna get into semantics here - if you think 1 abortion is equivalent to 20 abortions, that's great. I think a woman who approaches abortion as blithely as that has a problem.

Just to reposition Efan's question, at what number is an abortion in, say, 12 months "excessive?"

There seems to be a general agreement here so far (albeit not unanimous) that four is too much. How about three? Two? One?

I guess the point is that the arbitrariness of the number suggests there may be other "excessive-making" factors around our varied opinions on abortion.

I'm curious to know what some of them are.

Okay, but somehow I don't think a lot of the people answering the question are going to concerned about the woman's health.

Any more than 1 in 12 months is excessive. Any more than 1 in 3 years is excessive to me.
