This hits a nerve b/c a similar thing happened to my brother..he had a severe headache..went to the hosp...they told him to go home & take some tyl....he spent the night at my apt that night & in the morning he was braindead. i always regret not taking him back to the hospital. I suppose we won't know for a short while if, indeed, hemorrhaging from the fall caused Richardson's death, in which case earlier efforts to relieve the pressure and stop the bleeding may (only may) have been somewhat beneficial. Another theory I've heard is that some prior condition may have begun to take effect, causing not only her death, but the fall itself. We'll just have to wait and see. But you know what? We can never tell definitively what would've, could've, should've been, and spending a lot of time on that sort of thing often does little more than torture us. One thing is for certain: We will ALL die. And when your brother did, for example, you certainly weren't the one responsible for that inevitability. [Edited 3/18/09 19:41pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

She was radiant there, wasn't she? That movie has been a mainstay for my family since my daughter has been old enough to appreciate film. Very talented woman. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I do not want to scare anyone, but I had friends whose daughter died after a similar accident. It is the only funeral for a child I have ever had to attend. It's the only child I have ever known dying. What happened was the little girl went down a slide head first, hitting her head. She was stunned, but not unconscious, so my friend (the mother) didn't see any reason to take her to hospital. Well..what happened was the little girl develop symptoms later that night. And they took her to the emergency room, but she died later. Of course, they wished they had taken her after the accident happened, but they had no clue the injury was as serious. How horrible. Makes me think of all the little bumps and mini-accidents my daughter has. Yes, it was horrible. Just a freak accident like this--what happened to "beloved Natasha." There was nothing to indicate there was anything wrong with the child. Oh. what a very moving statement from the family. May she rest in peace, and my thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. I have fallen a couple of times while hiking--actually a few times. I always fell on my back. I had a horrible bruise one time. You know, anything can happen. One can just slip in some ice. So sad. | |

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS The New York City medical examiner's office is performing an autopsy on actress Natasha Richardson, who died two days after an accident on a ski slope. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS/Peter Kramer, file NEW YORK - The New York City medical examiner's office is performing an autopsy on actress Natasha Richardson, who died two days after an accident on a ski slope. Richardson fell during a private lesson Monday at a resort in Quebec. The medical examiner's office says results of the autopsy will be available later Thursday. The 45-year-old actress was seemingly fine after she fell, but about an hour later, she complained that she didn't feel well. She was hospitalized Tuesday in Montreal and later flown to a hospital in New York. ©The Canadian Press, 2009 Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture! Reaction to Natasha Richardson's death from show business community
at 12:23 on March 19, 2009, EDT. By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Reaction to the death of actress Natasha Richardson: "She was one of a kind, a magnificent actress. . . . She was also an amazing mother, a loyal friend and the greatest and most generous host you could ever hope to meet." - Sam Mendes, who directed the Broadway musical "Cabaret" for which Richardson won a Tony Award in 1998. - "She was a wonderful woman and actress and treated me like I was her own. . . . My heart goes out to her family. This is a tragic loss." - Lindsay Lohan, who co-starred with Richardson in a remake of "The Parent Trap" in 1998. - "As a stage actress she was really coming into her own, she was becoming a major star and taken extremely seriously on the stage and also her film work . . . was excellent. She had a sort of luminous presence on the stage, but offstage she was a very shy, very easygoing, almost self-deprecating character who didn't like being made a fuss of." - Tim Walker, theatre critic for Britain's Sunday Telegraph newspaper. - "She was quite careful about what she did. But what she did, she went into with a full heart and a passion. She was very discerning, very serious about the film roles she chose. It's absolutely tragic that somebody with so much to offer, and of course from this great acting dynasty, should be taken at this time of her life, and tragic of course for her family." - British theatre critic Michael Coveney. - "I just want to say how deeply saddened I am, we all are, by the sudden passing of actress Natasha Richardson yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband Liam Neeson, their two sons, the rest of their family and friends. Yet another reminder of how fleeting life can be and how precious. We need to value every moment." - Oprah Winfrey, on her talk show. - "She was a lady. I can't tell you enough what a good person she was, and fun and vivacious and the most full of life." - Kelly Ripa, co-host with Regis Philbin on the syndicated talk show "Live With Regis and Kelly." ©The Canadian Press, 2009 Ohh purple joy oh purple bliss oh purple rapture!
