are kids today (tweeners & teens) way worse than your generation? i'm sorry but these fuggin children today are monsters. back in the day, if you even tried to pull some of disrespectful shit that these kids pull would get you an ass whipping with the switch off the tree. parents seem scared to discipline their kids cuz they don't want to go to jail when the kid calls ![]()

they're horrible.
And I'll be 23 this year. So clearly, I'm not too far off from a youngin' myself ![]() I've already had tons of "drama" with my teenaged nieces and nephews. ![]() It is the parenting ![]() my parents were STRICT. and we as the kids didn't want to be "that" parent. BUT THAT PARENT IS THE BEST PARENT. ![]() I see a lot of my siblings trying to compromise with their children - and I just can't get with that ![]() edit: which is why they don't let "aunty sam" babysit anymore, they don't like having to listen to another superior that isn't their parents (they just can't pull that shit with me! ![]() [Edited 3/1/09 11:50am] [...i think i can, i think i can, i think i can...]

I just hate the text speak that a lot of teens use these days and deliberately misspelling words. If it's at a minimum or text use only, it doesn't irritate me as much. I don't like seeing a mass amount of text speak as a full paragraph or more online.

yes they are. because we were perfect. ![]() i would say they are more distracted by media and more heavily medicated - we failed our kids in that respect.

We're not allowed to discipline our kids anymore. Not like in the old days anyway.

I really can see overall how that is the general perception
but I know some incredible young adults and teens some REALLY incredible ones ![]() so I can not really agree 100% that they all are spoiled and suck some are far better then we were and some may be far worse - that much I can agree with

My 12 year old cousin has a great sense of humor, but his parents yell at him all the time, even when he tries to make the best of a stressful situation. His 9 year old sister is so rude and tactless and I tell her that if I had said that at her age, I would have been grounded or yelled at and that she gets away with too much. It's like they don't teach them manners, but yell at them for being disruptive

I think the "average" teenager will always be some kind of shortsighted rebel, but when I look at some adults and actually talk to them, I sometimes feel like they are behaving and acting like teenagers would normally do, which makes me feel way older than them. There will always be stupid, spoiled etc. people and no generation is "worse" than another one, the negative characteristics just change from generation to generation, depending on what is happening around the kids.

My closest observations are the teens at the runaway shleter where I work. There are some fantastic kids in some incredibly difficult situations that they had no part in creating. I am amazed at how resiliant some kids are. One thing we have noticed is the lack of motivation and focus. Many have no goals ~ even immediate ones, and no role models. They often don't know their heritage (many don't even know who their biological father is), and they just sort of wander. It's rare to hear a kid state emphatically that they want to go to college, or be a sports star, or what profession they want for their future. They don't even have favourite musicians. ![]() Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife. --Kahlil Gibran

Also, kids don't learn respect from their parents..not just discipline, but when their parents don't care what they are saying, feeling, etc. and just say "I'm gonna beat your ass" then what kind of understanding is that? You see a lot of kids with parents who don't respect each other, either, and the message is negative.

i think some are more intelligent and others are extremely stupid.
it one extreme or the other. ![]() and i think it has much to do with how with our parents and what their parents taught them. some of our parents are spoiled brats and some are thinkers, and some are just brain fried druggies. Its a mix bag that has left their child rearing at one extreme or the other. but i think its ushering an elimination of one group of those people. the extreme idiocy/foolishness wont be able to survive the near future. And children dont respect their parents when they see that their parents dont practice what they preach or are disrespectful themselves, hypocrites. thats where i see most disrespect developing from. Nah, there are good and bad kids and teenagers today just as there have always been. Maybe the worst of them get more out of line than in the past, but there are lots of intelligent, respectful, polite young people out there. I think every generation likes the idea of the 'golden age' in regards to this topic and others.
