that's so dumb. it's fine if someone wants to buy the property, but it's just taking a big dump on everyone's sense of nostalgia to rename a famous landmark like the sears tower. i hate that crap. he should go to france and get him a willis tower, or go to san francisco and get him a willis gate bridge. hell, he can chisel his face in the side of mt. willismore. i hate him.

Someone was saying kind of the same thing about baseball fields, remembering the time when places weren't "SBC" or "Staples" but the good ol' days of "Wrigley Field" That's how I feel about the Sears Tower. It's always been a corporate name, not like the Golden Gate Bridge. My Legacy

actually, it wasn't bought by the Willis group. they are just now the biggest renter in the building. that's how it got to be named the "Sears" Tower in the first place.
but Chicagoans will not accept this and will still call it the Sears Tower. there are still people who boycott Macy's there since they took over/changed the name of Marshall Fields, despite the fact that Marshall Fields everywhere else in the country didn't have the same cache as the one in Chicago and was basically indistinguishable from every other big department store like Macys. My son wasn't born here in Chicago, but we moved here when he was 2. Every time we went downtown he got very excited and called it the "Serious Tower." He's 17 now and that is what it is still called in my family!

Dreamfactory, I thought of "Arnold" this morning to when I heard about the name change and Anx I couldn't agree with you more. What next? The Golden Gate Bridge becomes the "Bank of America" bridge because they put enough money in it? Yeah, I know, but you see what I'm saying?? I'm firmly planted in denial

Nah, they'll rename it the "Golden Girls" (like the TV show) Bridge. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
