Orgers from NYC

Dear orgers from NYC...I´m planning a little trip to NYC over the Easter holidays and plan on staying for a couple of days, five days maximum.
Do you know of any really cheap but decent places to stay ? Something like a hotel or something ? I´m not really into hostels or YMCA type of accomodation but I could compromise. The area is pretty much irrelevant to me as long as it´s not too remote. I just want to experience NYC for a couple of days and JUST BE THERE..nothing special.

A friend of mine just stayed here: http://www.thetimeny.com/

It's near Times Square and she said it was clean and it was $125 per night. That's about as cheap as any place I've heard of in NYC (that was nice).

I got engaged there. The room was really tiny, but it was nice. shrug

You have to remember that everything in NYC is small and pretentious and over priced.

There's something called the Seafarer's Hotel, supposed to be decent for rock bottom prices and in a cool area (lower east side?)

Is Jersey as bad? Everyone I know in NYC lives in Jersey. Must be a little less expensive?

Thanks for the info folks. Regardless of how some people feel about NYC, whether they see it as pretentious and pricey or whatever...I GOT TO GO TO NYC !!!! It´s gotta be the real deal, NYC, nothing else...something is calling me ....I gotta go to NYC...it´s an irresistible urge, a voice from inside. Now I got to work on it to make it happen.
Thanks for the advice and input.

See, I´d already be back by that time. We can still watch a couple of gonzo flics and analyze them like some intellectual film critics would do.

Well, I grew up in NJ, so that's why I'm here, but I spend time in the City. Price depends on where in NJ you're trying to stay.

Hey guys... Can I recommend Queens for lodging - you can find clean/reasonable lodging for less than $100.00 per night.

La Quinta Inn Queens (New York City)
37-18 Queens Blvd
Long Island City, NY 11101

The subway is right across the street from this hotel... a subway ride to Times Square/Midtown is less than 25mins. New York City is made of 5 counties (also called boroughs).

With the money you save, you can buy an unlimited Subway/bus metrocard for a 7 day period.

http://www.mta.info/metro...#unlimited

Maps are here!

http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/

you can use the following site to map out what subway/bus routes to take to move around the city.

http://www.hopstop.com/?city=newyork

This will give you photos of most major subway stops in Manhattan.

The trick with lodging in NYC is staying away from Manhattan Island. If you are not physically challenged or not use to Subways/Buses or Local Railroads you can save money. The subways and buses run 24 hrs per day.

If you decide that there are too many people in Manhattan, please remember to explore Long Island or Upstate New York. These are all accessable without a car and make a nice day trip.

Have Fun!

Then you've GOT to go! There's no place like it! It's fantastic (it was cooler 20 years ago, but oh well...)
