Is Heidi Klum Heavy? Germany Seems to Think So

She is one of the most famous Angels from Victoria’s Secret, as well as one of the celebrities who, despite being 36 and a mother of three, continue to be assaulted by offers from the biggest fashion magazines. Yet, a model Heidi Klum is not and could never be, renowned designers are telling the media, now that Klum is about to launch the latest season of Germany’s Next Topmodel.

Legendary German designer Wofgang Joop, 64, is saying for Bild magazine that Heidi Klum is the last person who should be on the panel judging the country’s next supermodel, since she herself could never pull off such a feat. According to Joop, Heidi is simply too fat to be a catwalk queen, while also having the opposite of what the fashion industry is looking in terms of a woman’s body.

“No way. She is no runway model! Heidi Klum is simply too heavy and has too big a bust. And she always grins so stupidly. That is not avant-garde – that is commercial!” Joop tells the aforementioned publication. Moreover, it seems, he is not the only one to think so, as Karl Lagerfeld, one of the most iconic designers of our times, is also of the same opinion. Heidi Klum would not be able to make the cut on her own show, he also believes. “I don’t know Heidi Klum. She was never known in France. Claudia Schiffer also doesn’t know who she is.” Lagerfeld also says.

The problem with Heidi, it seems, is to be found in her body, which does not fit the standards imposed by the fashion industry. As model agency head Louisa von Minckwitz explains, while still a gorgeous and successful woman, Klum would never cut it as catwalk model. “Heidi has hips and curves. Ideal measurements for a catwalk model are 87-58-88. Heidi has 91-69-94. At 1.76 meters she is five centimeters too short. But, despite everything, she is a dream woman, an advertising icon and a superstar.” she says, as quoted by Bild.

With all the harsh criticism coming from some of the biggest names in the industry, there is no denying Heidi Klum’s popularity. Her recent photo spread, for GQ magazine, now on newsstands, for instance, has had quite an impact, especially since clothes were not included in the equation at the shoot.

Heidi Klum slams Wolfgang Joop claims she is fat, too heavy

Celebrity gossip websites including Hollyscoop.com and The New York Post report she was taken completely off guard recently by his comments.

Klum has defended herself, releasing a statement through her publicist to the New York Post saying, "Wolfgang is obviously trying to revive his sagging career and get press for himself by riding Heidi's coattails."

Tim Gunn has also rushed to her defence, slamming Joop's ridiculous comments.

He tells the New York Daily News, "It's totally ridiculous! (Heidi) is a sensitive soul, and it's very troubling to her. If she's fat, other women should throw themselves off a train. I can wrap my hand around her bicep."

Over the weekend, Heidi Klum, one of the most appreciated Angels from Victoria’s Secret, came under heavy attack from fellow German designers who literally said she was too fat to ever be a runway queen. InTouch Weekly caught up with Heidi at Victoria’s Secret Makeup Spring Look Kit launch in New York, and the model vouched she was not upset about the label because it’s everyone’s right to have an opinion.

“It’s a life where everyone can say what they want to say and everyone can have their opinion – that is his,” Heidi says of designer Wofgang Joop’s remark that she may be too heavy to ever strut her stuff on the catwalk like the rest of the models. “In this business you have to be fit, but I always try to be a good role model and not too thin.” Klum adds, thus again managing to effectively make up for the snub by promoting a healthy image, a thing for which she often received praise in the past as well.

On the occasion of the launch of “Germany’s Next Topmodel,” on which Heidi acts as judge, several reputed designers took it upon themselves to say that, of all people, Klum should be the last person to be a member in the panel. Not only is she too heavy for the catwalk, as Joop said, but she is also too short and, consequently, her “modeling career” is practically inexistent, although a beautifully construed one thanks to marketing and her appeal with the public.

Germans don't think she is fat. It's more that she is kinda annoying with all her media presence over here. She hyping herself so much as if she was the only super model in the whole world. Her TV show, all the commercials in the media, grinning in every camera with Seal who is always talking only about her etc.. And I guess Joop probably just doesn't like her shrug.

I think thats a pre-baby picture. She is definitely a little thicker since having kids. Not saying fat, but she doesn't have that body anymore.

Yeah lol. But gladly Austrians/Germans don't care a lot about him. Contrary to Seal who is so much more popular now since he is married to Heidi Klum.

They're right. She doesn't have a high fashion runway model body type. She does have a bust that is too big and is heavier than typical runway models.

Does that mean that they actually called her "fat"? No.

This is a very old photograph. She is bigger now, although clearly not heavy. She's a gorgeous mother of three with a fantastic figure.

I know they're responsible for some of the most iconic looks of all time, but gay men really need to back the fuck AWAY from the fashion industry. Time and again, it's the 'mos who run the show proclaiming already anorectic looking women fat and unsightly.

Wolfgang needs to stop hating with his catty ass. He's just mad because because of inside tea between them, period. That being said, the ballyhoo about her being on the TopModel panel is ridiculous. Heidi is one of last German girls to make it internationally on such an incredibly large commercial scale in the industry (a la Cheryl Tiegs, Beverly Johnson, Iman, Christy Brinkly, Naomi, Cindy, Christy, Linda, Claudia, Tyra, ect.) and if the premise of the show is about becoming a TOP model, then she is the person who should be on the panel representing the modeling industry in this country. The only other girl I could think of would be Claudia (Schiffer), but she's busy with her entrepeneur projects these days. Nadia Auermann or Taitana Patiz could work, but their panache is limited mostly within the industry and don't have enough brand recognition as faces ammongst the general public.

He needs to go sit his ass down somewhere in his tacky ass house with his arrogant attitude and concentrate on making Jetta's jewelry line turn a profit instead of worrying about Heidi's money.

Don't matter what race, color, creed or class, nuccas always wurried about what they neighbors doin'and wanna hate bored2

Yes, she's bustier and thicker than runway models. But to say that you have to have the figure of one in order to pass judgment on their career prospects is beyond ridiculous.

Personally, if I have any problem with Heidi, it's that she seems to revel in schadenfreude.

You know what was awesome? When Kenley would talk back to Heidi. Heidi'd make some negative comment about one of her designs in the judging and Kenley'd be like, 'Yeah, whatever, Heidi. rolleyes'.
